Shorten PAL Approval Times

that was a long time. did you have any run-ins with the police or any mental stuff? on the official website they promise 45 days and 8 months is more than that.

They don't promise 45 days they say that is what they try to see as their normal timeframe. Many on this thread currently are at 60+ days and still waiting.

Im at 42 days today, but i have my mind and body ready for 60 plus lol

Almost wish i had applied for a PAL licence, get that and been spending time at the range with unrestricted firearms - Then with no rush for time - upgrade to an RPAL on whatever timeline it takes.

I could be at the range today with my 590 and some slugs :( lol
If you have a buddy who is member of the range, have him hold onto it until you get your license. That said everyone I know who did the PAL then RPAL wish they had just done the RPAL in the first place which is what I did.

I know ill be happy that i did both eventually . . . . What I actually wish I had done is simply send off my application as soon as I originally decided to go for it, and then simply take the courses and forward results when i had them. My application would have gone in around October last year. - instead It landed with them Jan 5.

Anyway 42 days now - so im hoping within 30 days more at most.

When I challenged the exam, the examiner said to submit my application immediately. I filled out the application that night when I got home and mailed it the next day.

Time Has Slowed And Is Crawling Past

Flips over Hour Glass and sits back to watch another movie. Think maybe I should take up meditation. Just finished archery course was torn should I buy a bow or wait for my RPAL or just keep using my air pistol for amusement. So many things to contemplate.

I already have POL (restricted for over 20 years) i.e. I already own a handgun. Completed the PAL and RAPL course on Dec 21, 2014. Application online Dec 29, 2014. All paperwork with proof of exam marks was submitted with application. The application is still sitting in completed initial processing and now in progress for over 5 weeks. Called twice, both times told to call back in 2 weeks. The lady said I may have to wait another 30 to 90 days and they will still call all the references even though I have safely owned a handgun for 20 years.
What is the current time line for Alberta from application to RAP and RPAL arrival ?

Thanks for the reply. Does the online status say Approved for you ? Just curious about your time line. Date of application, when status changed from "Processing" When and if your references were called. When application went to Alberta CFO. When I took the course in Calgary the instructor said around 60 day to get the license, look like that is not the case for most people. Hope you get yours soon. Good Luck !

Assuming it is the same for Alberta as Ontario, nothing in your status changes once it goes to the CFO.

That's funny. I'm debating in buying a compound bow myself now.
I'm not sure which I could get the most use of hunting around here, a 12ga or a bow.

I figured I was in for a longer wait, but it is "already" showing up online. This is applying from BC,

Sent Jan 14th
Received Jan 23rd
Online Feb 16th

If they stay to their 45 days (don't worry, I laughed when I wrote that) it should be done on or around March 9th.

As far as I understand, the final stage of approval depends on the CFO, as they do the background checks etc. Here is my timeline:

Application received: Nov 20 2014
Cheque cashed/Online: Dec 31 2014
Reference phoned in: Jan 12 2015

From there it went to the CFO. I have phoned in weekly since then (including the CFO office directly) and apparently in their eyes its not that delayed. Lol

Good luck with a speedy approval for your app as well.

Well mine is issued as of today by the looks of it. Now just waiting for it to show up. No references called and I didn't get even get a call either. Weird.
