Shorten PAL Approval Times

Update: Don't listen to your instructor!
Moved to ON right before I took my exam, was told you did not actually need references to sign the doc and it was a new process but as long as they can verify on the phone it's them they don't need it.... WRONG! (I did have my picture portion signed by my wife no problem there).
However they sent me all my papers with new sheets for references, all have my file I'd and bar codes stickerd to them. Letter stated it would not affect my 28 day waiting. So seems to me they are on the ball and I recieved this all 2 days after it was posted online saying in processing.
We will see what happens once resent in but for now it's my own fault and in my opinion could have waited much longer to inform me of this.
There was no "problem". I was charged for a few fist to cuffs when I was younger, assault I think they called them, they always suggested the CFO was probably looking into my contact with the law. Surprisingly enough I was granted my restricted which I thought was a long shot considering the previous charges.

My online status currently shows "in progress". I'm under the 28 day waiting period, but they told me I could have my references call in(actually said they only needed to speak with one reference, and didn't interview me). Should I expect the online status to change at all after the reference check is complete?
I'm at day 26 now. When I called last week they told me they were done with references (1) and didn't need to talk to anyone else. Said picture was being processed and file turned over to CFO for final approval. I dont expect my status to change until the 28 days AND the CFO are completed. I think the next change is when your licence is issued.
Mine changed to "issued" a few days after, meaning it's in the mail.
I must have gotten lucky, my time line for a PAL was really short.
Mailed everything in regular post February 2/16.
Showed up online about 3 weeks later as received on February 8/16 (From BC as well!).
The message shortly followed that it was past initial processing and was in progress came up a few days later.
Credit Card charged on February 26/16.
Checked the CFC site last night before going to bed (March 7/16) and message changed to say that my license was issued and contact them in two weeks if I don't have it! (it didn't change until sometime in the evening, I had checked it before dinner)
Total days from when it was received to issued: 29
Now it's up to the postal system!
I had to call in once to change a phone number for one of my references, but that was it. Although neither of my references said that they had been contacted. I was expecting a much longer wait and hopefully it can be this quick for others. I had read online that the CFC only prints the licences on Fridays. Now I'm wondering if my license won't be printed until this Friday (it's Tuesday today), or since the message is that it is issued, that it's already printed and was sent out the day the message changed.
Either way, it's off to the local hunting and fishing store to do some looking now!
