Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hey guys. First time applicant for PAL/RPAL, in Ontario. Timeline as follows:

April 8,9,10/2016 Course completion PAL/RPAL
April 21/2016 Course results received from CFO
April 28/2016 Application received, and signed for, in Miramichi, via registered mail.
May 16/2016 Application appears online, and states that initial processing complete, status in progress. CC also charged.
May 18/2016 I called to verify that there are no errors on application. Told no, and to have one reference call in.
May 26/2016 Approved at 1:00am!
June 3/2016 RPAL card in hand!

And the wait continues... Hope it goes smooth. I put a down payment on a Walther PPQ 9mm.
28 days, from received to approved. I only called once, 2 days after it appeared online to check for reference call, which they said to have one call.

Eight days, from issued, to in hand. On my way to purchase Walther PPQ M2 Navy SD. I predict mega spending, in the near future.

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

what does that mean ?

my application for PAL was received on by them on 7th april 2016, we are now 6th june 2016 and this is the current status since a few days.

should i expect to be approved soon ? this is not for RPAL but only PAL

This means you have passed the wait period and they will review your application. Now is the time you can call in ask if they need anything then ask if you can do your interview if needed and get a reference number so your references can call

Give them a call, ask if you were missing any information, and ask if you need to be interviewed or if they would like to interview your references (It is easier to have a reference call in than wait for the call and play phone tag). This usually speeds things up.

After the interviews (or if they omit yours) it goes to CFO for final approval.

They did my appt so fast. Received on May 5th, CC charged May 25th. Called one reference this morning on June 3rd. Checked back online and got this

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

So happy, can't wait for it to come in the mail. :D

Mine was like that for about 2 weeks, called my local CFO. There was an issue (because they didn't read everything I sent in the mail, or it was lost in translation) which they didn't call about. Cleared it up and it was approved on the spot. (RPAL and PAL).

Takes but a few minutes and they are all super nice on the phones!

Thanks for the replies guys.

i'll call them on monday, i tought PAL didnt require reference call !

Well i was gonna call them monday morning but i checked the application status first and it said it was approved :) so i did'nt have to call.

but im pretty sure it would have been wise to call before that, to maybe speed things up.

Mine has said: "Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date" since mid march. I'm in Toronto. It's taking waaay longer than I thought it would.

First post. Here's my timeline for a Quebec application:
Sent my RPAL on 05/18
Application signed for and received on 05/20
Application showed up online on 06/08

Called the RCMP and was told I had information missing. Apparently sending in a photocopy of the card you get for passing the CFSC in Quebec is ok(they don't even send you the paper form anyway) but it's not ok for the CRFSC. I only sent photocopies of the cards. Woe is me. Had to fax it in today and the lady said it could take up for 2 weeks for the faxes to be processed.

Funny enough both my cards were scanned on the same page and the rest of the page was used to elaborate on one of the questions. They didn't mention missing the CFSC results but did mention not having the answer to the question - which are on the same page..

Don't remember how many RPAL licences I have had in B.C. this time I sent my money first week of march.....its been 63 working days and its ''STILL IN PROGRESS '' !!!!!
weekly calls to cfc and I get the generic ''they are very busy'' . if it was not so expensive for a retired old guy on a fixed income, I'd spend the $200 to take the ferry and gas and my meals to drive to the cfo in surrey. No bear meat this spring as my f a licence expired in mid may !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update Day 119, First time applicant that has had issues with the law, I'm at day 119, Called the BC CFO today and was told they are busy and that my file had been reassigned 2 times to other people and now its sitting on a pile waiting to be looked at, she said she put a note on it saying I called inquiring about it because its been a long time and told me to call back periodically to see what's going on.
I probably should have called more in the beginning of the process but I was under the impression that I had 17 year old warrants out of province and that that was holding up my application so I had a lawyer look into it, which took months with no outcome, today I called the out of province court house, took me 10 minutes to find out i have no warrants, they were withdrawn from court many years ago lol, I couldn't believe it, it took me 10 minutes to find out what my layer couldn't figure out in months.

PAL/RPAL course completed on 16th March
Waited about 2 weeks for the course reports to be mailed back to me and sent my application to CFP.
CFP shows application received on 4th April
On 30 May I got bored with seeing the application still processing, so I rang them. They'd left a message with on of my references to call them. I told them he's away on business at the moment, so they suggested that my second reference call them.
Second reference calls them later that day.
I check the supplication status tonight ( 31st May ) and its showing as processed and the license has been issued!!!

Lets just hope they don't take long to print the license.

Update:- June 8th My license arrived today !!

..but I'll have to wait 2 weeks until I come back from vacation before I can buy my rifle :(
