Shorten PAL Approval Times

My experience so far (Alberta, 37yo male, first time RPAL):

- Mailed (regular letter mail) application to Miramichi - April 21
- Received in Miramichi - April 28
- Appears online with status: "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date" - May 17
- Called in, was told they only need one reference to interview, and don't need to do a personal interview - May 17
- Reference called in and did the interview - May 17

I checked the divorce question and provided supplementary info. Divorce was recently amicably finalized after being separated for a while. Have remarried, current spouse signed the application (and is applying for hers as well). Will keep this comment updated. Looks like the 28 days will be up on May 26. Hope it's soon after that.

I sent in paper work in april 2014, no calls, no refference checks, no anything. May 2015 the card randomly shows up at my door
13 months after applying. I stil dont know why it took so long lol.

New Applicant in BC RPAL\PAL

May 12/22 - Training completed
May 24th - Application sent Express Post
May 27th - Signed for in MIRAMICHI
June 13th - Appeared online
June 15th - Called in and got extension number for 1 reference to call in, they did not need to interview me.
June 17th - Called in and was told everything is good with the application and it has been sent to BC CFO for final processing.

June 23rd - 28th Application Day - Still in processing - I was hoping it would be approved at this point as my local club requires an orientation day prior to be given full access and the last orientation day before summer is Sun June 26th. If I missed this I would not be able to access the club until the fall and I would still pay the full membership fee.

June 24th - 29th Application Day - Called in - Transferred to the BC CFO and it turned out that there was a missing signature from my wife (Not sure how this was missed) they asked to speak to her and then approved the app and gave me my licence #

June 29th - I called in as I have a M&P 9mm on hold to ask about the process for letting the CFO know about what Gun club(s) I am a member of. Lady was very nice and told me to email the information to cfpcfounit@rcmp-grc.gc.ca using my license number as the subject line. Email sent June 29th.

July 4th - License with .0001 showed up in mail box.
July 11th - License with .0002 showed up in mail box. Note: I had not made a purchase yet so for those of you waiting for your license and you have your license # you can hurry your LTATT by sending in your proof of club membership.
July 12th - Paid for M&P 9mm Range Kit from site sponsor in Ont.

Now the wait for transfer begins.

BC first time RPAL
Sent app Registered mail on July 4
Signed for in Miramichi on July 8

If I call at this point will it speed up getting the app to the "processing" stage (ie. get it to show online)

No, call when you see it appear online, ask if it is complete and if you need to interview. Before it is online, it is in a pile or on someones desk waiting to be opened and reviewed. If you call they will not go find it before it is online. After they open it your file appears online.

BC RPAL

Reference called in and Interviewed on July 13th

Status still hasn't changed to issued. I am well over the 28 days. Should I call in or just keep waiting?

Thanks

PAL to RPAL

Received in Mirimachi on the 27th of June
Card charged on the 14th of July
Appeared online on 18th of July
Called in (no interview just got told my reference to call) and got my reference to call in on 19th of July
As soon as my reference called....your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. on 19th of July

21 days from received and issued

Is that really fast or just me? I thought they had to wait 28 days or something?

Wait time is only for new applicants. You already had a PAL so you weren't required to.

I just received mine in the mail today. I only waited a few days over a month for the whole process, having only one reference interviewed. Can't wait to get my hands on a Hex Mosin and soon after a German Mauser.

Bc first time pal/rpal applicant
No criminal record/charges - ever
Just passed day 120 waiting for approval, or interview, or some kind of indication that my application is moving along.
Tried everything suggested in this thread, nothing has worked. Have tried calling bc cfo 3 times , can never get past the call Center, just keep getting told wait 2 weeks then call back. With all the bad things happening in the world today this must be the worst time to try getting a pal.

I was issued my PAL 28 days after they recieved my application, no references called. I am ok with this reasonable waiting period. I think it's a reasonable societal safety measure to a degree... what I do find unreasonable is the process of completing your firearms exam then it having to be sent to the recap then back to you then back to the rcmp (tedious) why not just keep our tests and give us a duplicate at the course. Then we apply and evidence of course completion is kept on RCMP computer with course backup in your hand.

Modifying this beginning part of the system will streamline things

That's Ontario only I believe. In B.C (and else where) you get the duplicate at completion of the course to submit. You get your exam results the same day you complete it, and can mail it all in the next day with your picture, application etc...
