Shorten PAL Approval Times

Mailed my RPAL application through regular mail on February 13. Nothing yet. Wondering if I should call to see if they have received the application.

Mine was sent in 4 weeks ago today, registered mail. Called today and it still hasn't been entered into the system, I was told 4-6 weeks is the Ontario norm at the moment...

Been waiting a week less than 14 months for my application to be approved, both references have called in and all I can get when I call is that it is with the CFO for final approval and they cannot give me a timeline, been patient and polite so far but I think it's getting rediculouse, even if denied I would just like an answer.

If your Member of Parliament is a Conservative, you can email your MP and tell him/ her your whole story and ask him or her to make an inquiry on your behalf. Remember to use proper grammar and refer to your MP as The Honourable (His/ Her Name), MP of (Your Federal Riding).

Full RPAL application received in Miramichi- January 19th 2017
Had references & spouse phone in for interview- February 15th 2017
Phoned in to CFC, told application is with CFO- March 3rd 2017
CFO's office said it's simply waiting approval- March 6th 2017

Still waiting patiently and it's been 46 days :)

Quick Update for me

Application for PAL sent week before December 24th
Application Received at Miramichi on: 2017-01-11 (This was originally a PAL request I had not sent in for almost a year due to not having time for this House / Wedding yada yada yada)

1st week of January I did my Restricted Exam and passed so I called Miramichi and asked them If I can still update my application to RPAL as well. They agreed to put it on hold and said they would send me what is needed and charged 80$ on my credit card while on phone since it was not charged yet the original 60$ for PAL.
I got the papers by mail a week later and sent the same day my missing files for the RPAL side.

February 22nd 2017 My papers have been sent to Quebec CFO (SQ)
March 3rd 2017 - Called QC CFO to ask if there is delays and said my application is on his colleague desk should take two week to a month
March 6th 2017 - Got called for my interview and both my contacts
March 6th 2017 - Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

Alright gents, first post here, looks like a sweet forum and happy to be a member.

Below is my current wait time layout for my PAL approval:

Feb 13/17 - sent in PAL app with test results via registered mail (as recommended here)
Feb 20/2017 - received in miramichi as per Canada post tracking and signature confirmation.
March 7/17 - Called in and was told it still hadn't been processed, and to check back in a week.... patiently waiting

I believe it pays to call, be respectful and ask questions politely if things are running slightly behind

Hi guys!

I was wondering the same about application time and mine was received by the CFC on Nov 21 2016 so it been sitting on someone's desk for a total of 110 days. I have called CFC multiple times and all I got was there is no timeline anymore since it is now on the desk of my provincial CFO and there's nothing they could do about it.

Seriously thinking about calling the Albertan CFO on Monday

Definitely call them, stuff like this happens all the time. They will probably approve you live over the phone after a wait like that.

January 23, 2017: Sent in my PAL application for both Non-Restricted and Restricted classes
January 30, 2017: Application received (RCMP website)
February 24, 2017: Application has completed initial processing. Now in progress. (RCMP website)
March 2, 2017: Application has been processed and licence has been issued. (RCMP website)
March 8, 2017: Received my PAL in the mail! #Excited

Total 6 weeks (for Ontario resident) from application being received to having my PAL in hand. Not too shabby.

I must confess to not reading all 10655 posts so I hope I'm not repeating someone else's post.
To speed up the process once the application has been received and is at the interview stage, as many people have said, get one of your referees to call the CFP on 1-800-731-4000 ext. 2533 for the brief interview.
If however you are like me and pretty fresh off the boat and your referees are outside Canada then use this number, I couldn't find it on the website but a very helpful person at the RCMP gave it to me, +1(506)-624-6626 ext. 2533

Excellent Info! Thanks for Sharing.

Submitted my PAL/RPAL Feb 15, 2017
Finally showed up to their website today March 14. I called in and ask if I can get my reference to call in. The Lady said on the phone hold on let me check if your application is ready. She took all my info and then told me to get only one reference to call in. I asked if she wants both my reference to call in, she said only one. I said thanks will do.
My reference called in today and hopefully all goes well from here.

I called today after my ref called in yesterday. Lady on the phone says just finishing it and my ref has called in and if everything is good my card will be printed in a few days. Hopefully all good.

Gents - don't ask them if they want your references to call in. Of course they're going to tell you "no", as they want the process to work at their pace.

Go to the online site and get the reference number for your application. Have one of your references call in, tell them that they are a reference for application number #########X (whatever your number is), and they should do the interview right then and there. Takes 5 minutes, according to my reference that called in. Only one reference needs to call, and you personally will not need to do an interview (unless you answered 'yes' to any of the background questions on the application, or you have skeletons in your closet that they found out about during the their background check on you).

Sometimes you gotta gently force the issue.

I've asked the nice lady on the other line and she said no problem. Get only one of your reference to call in.
