Shorten PAL Approval Times

Wow dragon that must have been a pain to wait for. My BC app arrive in NB Aug 2, appeared online the 31st of Aug and was issued the 10th of Sept. I didn’t have to call and none of my references were contacted. This was for a first time applicant and I got a RPal.

It was more confusing how once the application went off for scanning, no one seemed to know what happens after it reaches the CFO other than be patient and wait. I have a feeling though that it may just have been a case of my application being overlooked as once I started calling in more frequently things progressed quickly. I do now have my RPAL in hand, arrived in the mail today.

That’s good to hear. Not sure if it’s just BC being less populated or what, but it seems like the CFO out here just flies through the apps. Well congrats, hoping mine shows up Monday so I can get out and do some hunting.

Damn. I'm on the same timeline. Arrived on the 2nd, appeared online on the 31st. Had to send my test results though 14 days ago via fax. Still waiting for them to check their fax machine....

I definitely don’t envy you Ontario folk, seems like a pain to deal with the test results after finishing up the safety course.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Sorry, I had to express my sadness a bit here..

Called in again today. After 15 days they finally processed by test results. My application was passed over to the CFO in Ontario today or yesterday.. :(
I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones that'll be waiting significantly longer, as it seems a few of you who have been approved in Ontario in under 40-50 days were never told it went to the CFO, and everyone else who's been waiting 4+ months HAS had theirs sent to the CFO.

Was told to call in 4-6 weeks if I don't hear anything. Day 44 for me right now.

Damn, feel your pain. Faxed my results on Monday, but I'm not past the 28 day waiting period yet, so not going to call until day 29. Just hoping I don't get some of that "special" processing.

Of course, you might see "License issued" early next week. Here's hoping.

Still waiting as of today, 18/09/2018, they received the application 25/05/2018.

In the hands of QC CFO... every time I call they tell me that my references and I should receive a call soon. It has been over 4 weeks since the first time I spoke with QC CFO.

UPDATE

I took the pal and rpal courses last November but only recently got around to sending in the paperwork so I won't include that in the timeline but here was the timeline it took for me to get my RPAL.

August 1st: completed paperwork sent to processing centre

August 15th: credit card charged and status appeared on website as "completed initial processing"

Sept 19th: status changes online to "your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. Allow 2 weeks for delivery..."

None of my references were called.

I'm pretty happy with this process. It was simple easy and fast. I might even say a little too simple easy and fast. I had thought it would be much more difficult.

Now what I'm wondering is, is the" application number", that shows up online going to be my RPAL number. Like would I be able to order a firearm online or begin a transfer before my card arrives using that number. I'd really like to buy my friends rifle before the weekend and get some lead down range this weekend

Safe shooting

No Mgellis the application number is separate from your RPAL number. Just call them tomorrow and they will give you your licence number over the phone, I used mine to order some ammo on sale and it arrived before my card!

Approved today, 48 days in.
Not bad considering I was missing info (test, 2 areas I missed) and also had an arrest in the last 5 years.

Called & got my PAL. Initiated transfer for my Wilson Combat AR15 & my P226 Legion. Can't wait!

QC here - upgrading from PAL to RPAL

Sent by regular mail - august 21
Received at Miramichi - august 24
Appeared online and CC charged - september 11
September 19 - I called to know if everything was OK with my application (I was a bit worried because we have an extra form to complete in Quebec and the policeman decided to send it himself to the RCMP instead of giving it back to me so I could send it with my application) - I was told they got everything they needed and they are now scanning my picture and sending it to the QC CFO.
I'll update this post when I have some news.

In Quebec.

RPAL

Day 1 25/05/18 Received at CFP
Day 35 29/06/18 Appears online
Day 55 19/07/18 Called CFO to get update..
Day 144 26/09/18 Called QC CFO to get update. The agent told me that she was adding a note to my application. The afternoon all my references got a call and license is now issued.

Looks like the Ontario CFO shut down their extension because.. they didn't want to answer question?
If anyone has a new number or extension for them let me know. The one I had stopped working today and says the mailbox is no longer in service.. not sure what's up with that.

Well,

It seems the advice followed here worked well. That and things seem to be moving smoothly at the CFO's Office.

August 18-19 Completed safety courses.
Sept. 4 Application received by RCMP.
Sept. 10 Received Test Results.
Sept. 25 Received snail mail indicating missing info - test results and failed to check 'I don't own any firearms' box.
Sept. 25 Called and supplied missing info and faxed test results in.
Oct. 5 Called as application status hadn't shown up online yet - was told to call back next week.
Oct. 5 Checked late last night to see if it was at least online yet - found application complete and license issued.
53 Days from course completion.
31 Days from Application receipt including mandatory 28 day waiting period.
No references called.

That was pretty expedient. Much faster than I had anticipated. Something must be broken in that part of the government, lol.

I thought I already posted in this thread, but I cannot find my original post, here's my timeline.... (ON)

Courses done mid July (didn't receive stamped results , had to bother FSESO for email copies)

AUG 15 App received
SEP 6 Credit card carged $80
SEP7 Showed up online ( didnt check night time, but when CC was billed, did not show up online on IWS)
SEP 24 - received emailed results,
SEP 25 faxed in
SEP27 status on IWS changed from "app received .... you will be contacted for missing ... blah blah .. " to "completed initial processing
OCT 9 called in, told was flagged, no reason given. same day, spoke with friendly RCMP officer ( was flagged due to youth offences over 10 years ago) ... pleasant person, said no need to contact ref's , and approved on the spot
OCT 15 (monday) received RPAL in mail

just to be clear, the RCMP officer I spoke with was very clear that I could have ended up in a "long" pile , had I not been lucky for her to answer her phone at her desk, the first time calling in.

No criminal record, checked NO to the boxes, yet still the youth record showed up.
Makes me happy that they are actually looking back.

No plan is fool proof, but I feel more comfortable knowing they are not just handing it out like candy.

GL fellow CGN'ers ...

Ya I heard the results are begin sent out super fast so my plan is to wait 20 days, if I receive the results early send everything together and if I dont receive anything then send in my application after 20 days so by the time rcmp receives my registered mail I should get my results and when I fax it in... 28 days approx will have elapsed.

Ruger is a good gun the only reason I'm thinking of the M&p sports II is because it's cheap $300ish for the .22 rimfire or $600ish for the 5.56 nato and since it's an AR platform u can easily and cheaply mod it down the line. Also looking into a revolver, a glock or S&W semi auto and the Mossberg® MVP LC Light-Chassis Bolt-Action Rifle...so $$ is definitely an issue for me since all those with the case and starter accessories will cause a pretty penny :)

So changed my phones and lost my login info. That begin said here's my time line so far...

Aug/26 completed my courses
Sep/11 got my results from FSESO
Sep/20 Rcmp received my registered post with the application & results
Oct/17 my application is online and cc was charged

Will keep you posted on the rest of the process 😊

I let my FAC expire 24 years ago and just re-applied this summer and received it in the mail in Sept.

I applied and RCMP received my application.
After 30 days I called and the clerk told me it was received back when and it shouldn't be much longer.
I kept checking online and 44 days after they received/registered the application, the website told me the application was approved and PAL issued.
10 days later it came in the mail and I went shopping after supper since hunting season was already open a week earlier.

So in total ~ 60 days PAL in-hand from the day I mailed in my Application.

Personally, I think that was a reasonable wait for a PAL.
