Well there goes that idea. At least I know its sitting there waiting for me.

I know Ontario CFO sucks but I can't believe you need to belong to a range in order to pick up a shotgun.
You do not need a card to pick up an unrestricted firearm but some stores may have a store policy that they need to see a card.
Last year based on advice from Ab CFO, I was able to buy a rifle at a store with the PAL number only, the card took another 10 days.

You don't.. membership is not a requirement of the FA at all.

I have never heard anything about having to belong to a range. As far as I know an unrestricted firearm is an unrestricted firearm regardless of if its a .22 or 12Ga semi-auto shotgun. Also, the owner of the shop is on the board at a local range and never said anything about having to belong to a range.

Could my PAL be lost in the Mail?

The RCMP said it was sent out June 30th, my wife recieved hers almost two weeks ago. When I call they keep saying its due to the mail strike and wait.

I have 2 guns waiting for pick up, based on the License number they gave me and have received the regesteration on them, so they are telling me not to get a new PAL number

Thanks

Cheers.

Just spoke with a lovely woman at the Ontario CFO.

She spent about 20 minutes answering every question I could think of with an incredible amount of detail.

Gave me PAL # without hesitation. I must say, I hope all my future dealings with the CFO's office are this pleasant!

Now, does anyone have an idea as to which online retailers will ship with just the PAL # rather than a scan or the actual licence?

YMMV.

I'm dealing with a particular retailer right now who is also a CGN site-supporter. It is for a non-restricted purchase. All they need is the PAL# and DOB.

Restricted purchases are a different story.

Yeah, I'm fine with waiting to get a restricted, but I wouldn't mind ordering a non-restricted in the mean while.

Is there a thread or a listing somewhere of which retailers have which requirements?

No but you could phone around to a bunch of dealers and start a thread on that.
Or you could have a friend buy the firearm you want and then call in and have it transferred to you immediately.

Aye Carumba, guess what arrived in the mail today!

So, my final timeline is:

License app received at the Firearms Center May 24
appeared on their website a little after 2 weeks later
Interview phone call June 22 for me and both references
Arrived at the door July 20

Be sure to allow for 2 months total time because of the new "proofing" procedure of the printed license after its issued.

Still, worth the wait, delighted to have it. Did it have to be this awful shade of purple? :)

Proofing procedure? According to whom?
