Shorten PAL Approval Times

its funny, cuz i was laid off last winter from my job, got the job back in early summer, put that on app, she asked, no problem with explanation that i was back at it.

I doubt it's a make-or-break for them, but they do want to assess where your head is- if you're distraught about losing a job, you might not be the best candidate for having a gun. If you answer the question with 'yeah, I just got fired and my no good SOB ex-boss is going to pay for that', you might get a different result than 'yes, I just left my job for another position with a different company'. People change jobs all the time, the question I'm sure is geared more toward your attitude toward other people- assessing your risk to the community and all.

Timeline for my RPAL app:

Passed safety courses: 10/02/11
Application sent via Xpress Post: 10/05/11
Received at CFC: 10/11/11
Application "In Progress": 10/26/11
Interviews Done: 10/26/11
App @ CFO Office: 10/31/11
Approved by CFO: 10/31/11

It really does help to keep calling the CFC and CFO. Last week I was waiting for my picture to be scanned. This morning I called the CFC, they confirmed the picture was scanned and they forwarded the application to the CFO. 1 hour later I got through to the CFO's office, and they approved my application right then and there and forwarded it back to the CFC for printing.

Yup. This is what happens in a civilized Province (not like in ON where the exam papers have to be sent by the instructor/examiner to the CFO who then mislays them then finds them and stamps them and mails them to us for forwarding with the full application to Miramichi.)

I got mine back from the on cfo in 10 days. Maybe I caught them at a lull.

Nicely done.

I had my references call in same day (I have good friends), and it was issued same day. You should DEF. have before end of november.

Followed the suggestions in this thread and my RPAL arrived in the mail today! Thanks CalAlta and others for your input. My application was delivered on Sept 20th and the RPAL arrived on the 40th day. Not bad! :)

Getting the references to call in was also suggested by the information officers when I called to enquire about the status of my application.

Have you tried tracking it online?... if so, what does it say?

It says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

It has been this way for a month. All interviews were done mid october and it has been sitting at the BC CFO office for 2 weeks now.

My gut instinct tells me that one of your references said something they shouldn't have..... the day after they interviewed my references the message changed to "Your license has been issued".... I had it in hand 8 days later..... I think either a reference screwed you or there is an administrative problem.... did you call them?

I talked to the CFC after my references called in and they said everything was good and they had sent my app to the BC CFO office for approval. I talked to the BC CFO office last week and the woman there said she would email the CFO to get it approved as soon as possible and that I should call back in 2 weeks if I have not heard back.

My PAL application finally went to "In Progress" yesterday. Funny part is they received my application on the 14 Oct according to Canada Post but my file says they received it on the 12 Oct. 2 days in my favor, I like it :)

I'm calling later in the week to see if that will bring my application at the top of the pile...but at least it seems to be moving along pretty good so far!
