Shorten PAL Approval Times

 BC here too. New PAL. 66 days so far and still not issued. And I called already 2 weeks ago. Gonna call again tomorrow morning.

Just chased BC CFO again, faxed additional info in on Tuesday, lady told me that it's in the que to be processed but not on my file yet. Asked me to call back in a weeks time if it's not shown as issued on-line, there backed up real bad.... more waiting :(

i guess Saskatchewan is awesome. I never had to deal with the CFO just mailed in the application and it was approved with no hassle. :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Update on my experience so far:
Challenged the PAL and RPAL tests on May 2.
Mailed in regular mail to them on May 7.
Received by them on May 11 and online as in progress.
Called them June 4 and was told that everything was there, nothing missing but it was not entered yet and to call back today.
Called June 7 and got my interview done.
Got my references to both call in today as well.
Called CFC again just to make sure everything was good, was told it is in the hands now of the Alberta CFO but should be approved shortly. :)

The two ladies I have talked to, Donna and Andrea, have been super fantastic. A huge shout out to them for being awesome.

FYI, my brother and I have done this whole process each at the same time and we are both at the same point of waiting now. It sure helps in my opinion to call in. Thanks for this fantastic thread.

I'm in the process of upgrading to RPAL. Took 3ish weeks to get back from CFO. I sent in my application May 14 via registered mail. I called today and CFC was not much help (online status check says license issued last summer which was for my PAL). They told me minimum 4 weeks before it even shows up online as received.

Just checked today and it went from not online to in progress. I called in to do my phone interview but they said my picture needed to be scanned first (guess the 10 month old pic is no good anymore). They said to call back later on next week. They said after my references are interviewed it could be 45 days until I get it

Just received my RPAL today! Figured I'd post my timeline for those interested.

April 16 – PAL / RPAL mailed
April 19 – Application recieved by CFC
May 9 - Application completed initial processing
May 11 - Phoned CFC to conduct interview (Friday), was told it wasn't at the proper stage yet. Scanned images of application, picture and test results weren't done yet. Told to call on Monday or Tuedsay.
May 15 - Phone CFC to conduct interview. Complete interview. Told to wait to have references call in. Images still not scanned yet.
May 28 - First reference called in to conduct interview.
May 30 - Second reference called in to conduct interview.
May 31 - License issued.
June 7 - License received in the mail.

37 business days from mailing forms to receiving license in the mail.

By the looks of my time line, If my references would have called in sooner (my fault), I could have had my license a bit quicker.

You can but you'll get the same answer as I did this week, quote 'were really backed up & it's taking us up to a month to process RPAL applications, please call back in a week or so's time.'

My 45 days from start of processing falls due on Monday.... :(

Oh no I didnt wanna hear that. I thought if we called in they could do it over the phone if all else was done. Big sigh...

What number did you call? Same 731-4000 number?

Another month...Yikes...thought I was almost there

how long do the interviews take when you call in? would i be able to get mine done on my 30 min lunch from work? since the ontario cfo is only open till 430 or 5 and i work till 5

mine was about 5 minutes. mostly you want to answer no to their questions.
so if you can eat fast the answer is yes.

I'm from BC, and I'm pretty positive it takes a little quicker here - maybe it has to do with the fact that most of the population lives in the urban areas and not as many people are going for their licenses.

May 16th: Sent my PAL through regular mail.
May 22nd: Pal Received
June 8: Application has completed initial processing.

Gave them a call today, since I'm only getting my non-restricted they said no interviews would be carried out, all info was correct with none missing, and that they were in the process of getting my picture scanned to recieve approval. Hoping it'll be issued by next week.

why would anyone not want to go for their RPAL? Even if you don't have the faintest interest in pistol shooting now, who knows how you'll feel in a year or two? My feeling is that it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it
