Shorten PAL Approval Times

So after waiting for 24 days for mine to show up in the system it is finally there. The funny part is it says that it was received on the 22nd of Aug two days after I sent it. Has it been in progress since then? Or did they just backdate the site to the day it arrived? I think I will call on Friday and see if they will do my interview.

yay

Received august 21st. Showed up online today sept 12. Message says the following...

Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

There is hope?:)

Does this mean they may not make me pay $80 for my upgrade (I sent my RPAL application in yesterday)? I was thinking the fee waiver was already gone, so I gave them my cc number. doh!

It's my understanding that if they receive it while the fees are waived, you won't pay, even though processing may take longer. The fees are waived until the 17th.

Here is my Ontario timeline:

June 2nd: Completed CFSC tests for PAL and RPAL
June 27th: Received stamped test results in the mail from CFO
July 3rd: Mailed application to CFC, Miramichi
July 9th: Received by RCMP (according to info disclosed when it was put online)
July 25th: Processed payment for application, appeared online
August 1st: Completed interview, 1st reference completed interview
August 3rd: 2nd reference completed interview
August 7th: Called RCMP to inquire about final stages. Nice lady let me know to call back on Aug 9th to receive name of CFO officer who will do final approval.
August 9th: Called RCMP and some other lady was nasty with me and told me it was out of their hands now.
September 13th: Called RCMP to inquire about final approval, as it has been over 45 days, and over 45 business days since application receipt. Transferred to CFO officer and left msg. She called back shortly there-after and after a brief discussion, she approved the application.

Mine got approved today finnaly.. I sent mine in on june 2, waited 45 days and started calling, no help really.. They told me to wait 90 days then call again. I waited and did that. The lady on the phone gave my the number for the Officer handling my file. He called me back a few days later and said he would look into it. The next day it went from waiting for final approval to approved.

I'm hoping it comes in the mail tomorrow so I can go buy me a shotgun!

My RPAL upgrade application was received 08/16/2012 as per my delivery tracking. It took 22 days ( Sept 6 ) to show up online on the CFC online system, and it showed 08/16/2012 as the receipt and start date.

I called them on Monday Sept 10 to see if I could help move the process along quicker, I was advised they weren't ready for interviews yet, but I would likely get a call the next week.

Today Sept 13 I got a call from the CFC, did my phone interview, they then called and left voicemails for my 2 references. Both my references called back later in the day, did their interviews. Now the CFC site is showing my license as issued!

Just under a month for the whole process, now just need to wait for it to arrive in the mail! I will give credit where credit is due, this is an acceptable turn around time for this process.

Good luck to everyone else!

I called Miramachi on thurs last week. The lady i talked to said they were 3 weeks behind on mail, and that the wait time in BC is 4 months?

I was able to weasel my way into the BC CFO office by calling in under the pretense to get names of instructors who do the restricted course (my application was just for NR PAL). After getting the names I gave the woman on the phone my application number and she put me on hold, came back 5 minutes later and it was approved.

FWIW, Here's my Ontario timeline...

10 Aug Application received
~20 Aug Shows up on online system
07 Sep Got call for interview and 1st reference got called
17 Sep (today) This morning spoke to 2nd reference and reminded them to call in
This afternoon, status changed to approved

Makes me think that if my 2nd reference had called in right away I would have been waiting for the 28 day waiting period to expire.
I don't know why they bothered with interviewing me, all the lady asked was the same questions as on the application anyway, with the added "Why do you want to get restricted weapons?"

Don't know if any of these were a factor, but wasn't going to :nest:
1) I had an FAC when I was a teen (20+ years ago)
2) Gave "target pistol" as reason for restricted
3) Did safety courses a couple years ago and just got around to applying for (R)PAL, Maybe province put me in system back then which speeded things up?

All in all, pleasantly surprised at how quickly they got it done.

Well I just received a letter tonight telling me I did not provide the proper paperwork for a restricted licence. I did not apply for a restricted licence. I made the mistake of saying on the application that I intend to own a handgun in the next five years. To them I guess that means I want a restricted licence. To me it means I want what I applied for now and that I plan to do the restricted crse in the future. I think they should either remove or rewrite that question.

So here's an updated time line for application from BC:

July 26 - mailed in complete package
July 31 - application received
Aug 20 - appeared online "in process"
Aug 28 - attempted to contact references
Sept 4 - last reference finally called in
Sept 4 - online stautus changed to "license issued"
Sept 11 - Called in to check the status; They said it was mailed out yesterday
Sept 18 - received in the mail!!!

WooooooOoOOOOOoOOoOOoooooohoooOOoOOOoOOoOOoO!!!!!
Sadly i have to be patient for a little longer for my LTATT to process.

Anyone know if i need to be a member of a range to purchase a shotgun? I'd like to do trap and skeet but haven't decided on a range yet.. Langely Rod and Gun or DVC in Coquitlam.

What I was trying to post was that DVC is an indoor, 17 yard range only, as far as I know.
