Shorten PAL Approval Times

Oct 22 Sent RPAL application Xpresspost from AB
Oct 25 Received at Miramichi
Nov 16 Your application is now in progress...
Nov 22 Called in for Interview scanning was done and finished my interview
Nov 22 both my references called in
Nov 22 Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Less than a month.. that has to be some kind of record.

My biggest piece of advice is call in regularly. They told me if I call in they do not mind as it makes less work for them. If I had waited they would have gotten to my file 3 weeks from now for interviews. So by calling in you basically jump the queue so to speak. She said we absolutely do not mind you calling in and helping us get your file wrapped up.

Oct 9 - application recieved
Nov 6 - now in progress
Nov 9 - called in and had interview
Nov 9 - both references called in
Still waiting for final approval. Called in today and was told my application is at the Ontario CFO for final approval. I was told this could take several weeks to complete. At the 45 day period and they told me that its not uncommon to wait longer.

I am having a bit of a problem with the wife's application.

They received it October 5th.
All her interviews were done November 8th.

She phoned yesterday (Nov 21) and they wouldn't take her name. They said they are super backed up and expect up to 90 days.

WTF?

Its been 48 days now... FFS.

Thank god I got mine in 30 days when I applied.

That's disheartening. Mine finally was posted online this week and credit card charged. Was hoping interviews will be next week and within 3-4 weeks I'd have my license. Doesn't seem like that's going to happen if you other guys in Ontario are being told upwards of 90 days! That's solidly in the new year for me :/

Yep, my husband and I are waiting for the mail to arrive.. issued November 14th, others have had theirs show up within 7 business days but nothing so far for us.:( I guess we're all at the mercy of the good old BC CFO!
Have you tried calling as the CFC site suggests? Please post when you receive your PAL, we'll do the same to see what the BC timeline is like.

I called to ask about the wait and they told me it could be any day, I'm hoping it is just delayed from all the applications. I will keep you posted!

called this afternoon to see if I could talk them into giving me my number which they wouldnt,
but did say that they do mailouts a few times a week and not just once a week as suggested in other posts
still hope for tomorrow

I sent my application 30 days ago and it's still not showing up online. It can take between 4-6 weeks for "Initial processing" to appear online so i'm afraid you won't see your application online before 2013.

Mine showed up online on Nov. 16 ( 22 days after it was received), and today I called to inquire about the progress of my application and had my interview done at the same time. Both of the female clerks I talked with were very nice and accommodating. Now have to wait for them to call my references.

That was our experience too. Received in Miramichi on Oct 15th, showed up on line November 4th, they called November 13th to do interviews (the first business day after the mandatory 28 day hold), references called in the morning of November 14th, licenses issued that afternoon, now we're waiting on Canada Post.

Thanks a lot for the info here.

They received on Oct 30, 2012.
Showed up online Nov 20, 2012.
I called in today to update the credit card info and they put me on hold and approved it on the spot. Nov 23, 2012
A few more days left in the 28 day wait and they said to expect it in the next 1-2 weeks.

My application finally showed up online a few hours after I called to make sure everything was received... i'm not sure whether is a coincidence or they moved my application up the pile, but here's the timeline:

Dropped the application at the Surete du Quebec on October 25th, 2012
THey received the application on November 2nd, 2012
Appeared online on November 23rd, 2012

I might actually get my licence before Christmas if i'm lucky enough.... ye for me!

Finally, got time to put together to fill up the form, met up a couple friends, have a couple of beer, ask them to be my references. That's after two month passing my PAL and RPAL. I have very tight schedule.

I will come back to this post once I got the update.

We will see how it would take since my current immigration is just only working permit but I have been here more than 6 years so no police certificate need but we will see how long I have to wait for my PAL.

Lucky you,

mine arrived there on the same day and it still isn't online yet. I really hope they didn't loose it.

Oct 5th - Passed CFSC and CRFSC tests
Oct 24th - Get stamped tests back from CFO. Mailed via registered mail that afternoon.
Oct 29th - Recieved in Miramichi.
Nov 19th - Status shows online as initial processing.
Nov 21st - Credit card charged. Status changes to 'in progress'.
Nov 26th - Interview complete. References call in. 45 minutes later: License issued.

I'm pretty happy with the turn around. Now lets see how quick everyone's favorite postal company can mail it to me! :)

Both Fortunately and unfortunately you're in the same boat as I am now. Even though the PAL is issued it's not valid until the mandatory 28 day waiting period is complete. Then after they will send it out.

I'm pretty impressed that it managed to get done prior to the waiting period being completed. Now if they would just institute lifetime licensing, you don't mystically forget what you're doing with a gun if you don't send in a renewal on time. Unfortunately you do somehow become an instant criminal.

Mine took 29 days to get approved once they received it. but its been 10 days 8 business days since it was approved online and i still have not received my license in the mail, and im in Ontario. Does it really take a full 2 weeks ? anyone else in Ontario have to wait ?
