Shorten PAL Approval Times

Please tell me i'm not the only one waiting for a license to be issued after interviews...

No,You're not alone...I called in and did my Interview Feb.12,had my references calling in same day, inquired about the status last week, have been told is has to get approved by the CFO now...and still no status change online.Maybe our CFO is on his winter holidays?!I'll call tuesday again...

They received my PAL application the Feb 1st (tracking number), still nothing on their website and called twice... Nothing

Further to getting your number over the phone; I got told no last week ( by the cfc, not the mb CFO). However he did tell me that since mine was an upgrade to rpal that my number would stay the same. Just a different suffix after the decimal.

Just a bit on my experience with the PAL application...I sent in my application on December 29, 2012. In mid-January, it appeared online as "in progress" and indicated that my application was received on January 7, 2013.

I started to get a little impatient so this week, I decided to try calling in and requesting to do my interview, as recommended in this thread. The lady I spoke with said that she would first look through all of my information to see if my application was complete, and once she did that, she told me that my PAL application would be issued and that I would receive my license in about two weeks. I was a bit surprised as I thought interviews were always part of the process.

As soon as I got off the phone, I did another online status check and sure enough, it said that my license was issued and that I would receive it in about two weeks.

im going to assume yours was not a restricted licence?

From BC it was 2 weeks to the day after final approval for my rpal licence; it showed up today. Total process for first time licence (took pal & rpal at the same time) from them recieving my application was 52 days in all..... Now to shop....

Mine showed up online just over 3 weeks after it was recieved. It was recieved on Jan 31, so it might be interesting to see what the time difference is between approval times.

Woot.

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Application was received by CFC on Jan 18th so about 5 weeks not too bad.

I just called to check the status of my application. Received by Miramachi Januauary 10, interviews were completed February 12 and status still says in progress. The agent told me that my application was just transferred to the CFO on February 23 (a Saturday, which seemed odd for the gov't) and that it will take a maximum of 45 days in their office. She said it could be faster (I hope). She said that everything was ready and it can be in the mail as soon as the cfo releases it.

Is it just me or does every phone call seem to provide different information? Has anyone heard of the maximum 45 days for the CFO to approve?

That sucks man my last reference did his interview today and about 2 seconds later mine switched in the online system to license has been issued. I wonder if the Alberta CFO pre-approved it before the interviews or something.

My Timeline for RPAL:

Application Received: .........................Jan 23
Application Showed Up online: .................Feb 11.
They called me and did interview:..............Feb 27.
References called in...........................Feb 28. Today.

Total elapsed time: 36 days. Not Bad I have to admit.
Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Now it's time to hover around the mail box.

How many of you guys have sent in your application before having the approved test results?

I was told that once you know you passed your exams, send in your application while you wait for your test results to be approved by the CFC. Then once they are mailed back to you, simply send in the results via registered mail and it should save a couple weeks to a month on getting it processed.

Pretty good idea, just curious about the results from people who did this.
