Shorten PAL Approval Times

Just got called for my interview! They tried calling my brother for reference, but he was in lecture...Is there a way to get a file # and extension so he can call in?
 
Mine JUST showed up online, it was exactly 3 weeks as of yesterday since received. Says the following:

"Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date."

Is this normal? Or does this mean I missed some information and should give them a ring??

I was told that once you know you passed your exams, send in your application while you wait for your test results to be approved by the CFC. Then once they are mailed back to you, simply send in the results via registered mail and it should save a couple weeks to a month on getting it processed.

Pretty good idea, just curious about the results from people who did this.

I sent mine on Monday. It got there Wed.

I passed my courses the previous Monday/Tues.

I plan to wait until it shows up on line and call / then fax my results ( when I get them) quoting my file #.

You can get your file number either by calling in and checking the status or checking the status online https://secure.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/eCFISIWS/editLicenceQueryChoice.do?language=English.

Your brother can then just call in using the same menu options to get to check status of the application and say he's a reference and calling in to do the interview and quoting the file number.

Mine didn't say that. It said application has been received and is being processed. Please check again later bla bla.

You should have the application number now. I'd call.
 
Everyone should make sure that the date they indicate that the application was received is correct in the online system. They received mine on Jan 25, but the data entry person used the date of Feb 14 (the day that the data was entered) as the date received. I have called and they admit that it is clearly their mistake (the scanned application is even date stamped Jan 25), but also don't seem to be particularly concerned about correcting it. As of now, it looks like I will lose nearly three weeks worth of time as they are making me wait out the 28 day period starting from Feb. 14. Complete BS.
 
Just called. Apparently they are missing one of my references signatures, which is strange, because I watched him sign it.

Anyways, once i receive the request in the mail ill get his signature & Express Post it back. Any idea if there will be a significant wait again? Or will my applciation be picked up again immediately, given that by the time they get this signature my 28 days will be over?

Didn't you keep a copy of your completed application? You would then be able to see if a sig is missing
 
I called the BC CFO yesterday. Lady said mine was now in the CFO office. Is that different from where it was before? It's been with the BC CFO for 3 months so I was glad when she said "Yea give it another month" instead of all the other times where people said "There is no way we could tell you".

Not sure if she was being cryptic so I would stop calling or if it's in another stage.

Is there another status other than "Initial Processing", before "Has finished and will be mailed"?
 
I kept a printed copy of all the info. But not a scanned copy including reference signatures. Im a little choked, but obviously, something was missed or they wouldnt be sending it back. Just frustrating to add another couple weeks to something I have been looking so forward to getting for the last couple months.

Such is life! Im more curious as to once they have the info back, how long it takes for them to pick up processing again.

Did my course 7th dec, results received from Ontario CFO with stamp on Jan 15, received in Mirimachi on Jan 21. Licence issued according to the online search Feb 27, now checking the mailbox everyday. Overall pretty happy with the timeline, never made a call. Reading the above posts the whole process seems like a lottery draw. Good luck everyone.
 
Thanks for your post. Mine was received in Mirimachi on Feb 21 so will be interesting to compare. I did not have to wait for test marks though, so not sure what that step is. I sent in the instructors certificates that had the test results on it, at the same time as the PAL application. Seems like an extra unnecessary step.

Not too sure myself, im assuming that the Ontario CFO does background checks at this point? Good luck with your application.
 
Does anyone have a non toll free number for the CFC , my references are trying to call in for me from Ireland but can't get through on the 1800 number. Thanks.

Wow get this.. I call about my card not being here yet... The lady then starts preaching to me that I need the card itself to buy a restricted firearm.. I inform her obivouisly I don't look at how many I have.. She said those are mistakes. I told her that's incorrect and the only mistake was her original statement
