Shorten PAL Approval Times

Well I don't think mine will be here intime for my local shops sale in 2 weeks sigh......they have some nice handguns for good prices to :(

Most shops are pretty good about placing an order on hold given your waiting for your RPAL to be issued.. esp if you show them the test results etc etc.. just ask and put down a deposit for X at the sale price. :)

This what is my status of application says as of this morning:

Current Status: Your application has been received. It is currently being processed.
You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information.
Please check the status again at a later date.

Does that mean they need additional information? Or is this a standard message?

Just checked mine and it says slightly different than your message. Suggest go ahead and call them.

"Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

You get that message after your interviews and background checks are completed and your licence has been given the final ok from the CFO.

June 10 application received at CFC
Application is online but CFC hasn't started processing it yet. Emailed my MP last night.

Mine was received earlier than that and it's still not online. I just got off the phone with the CFP and they still are saying it's in initial processing.

I did finally get a reply from my MP's office, but it seemed like a pretty cut and dry response.

Hello Kyle,

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding wait-times during the Possession and Acquisition License application process.

Our Government fully supports responsible gun ownership by law-abiding citizens, and has taken a number of steps to ensure that their rights are protected. It was our Government that eliminated the costly and ineffective long-gun registry, and took a stand to defend those who wish to own these guns for sport or recreational purposes.

To ensure that only those who can be trusted to possess and utilize firearms in a legal, safe and responsible manner are able to acquire firearms licenses, stringent background checks are performed on all applicants. These checks serve to ensure that those who may pose a danger to the public, or who suffer from mental illness, are not permitted to obtain a firearms license. As you know, applicants are required to name individuals as references on their applications.

While the RCMP and Canadian Firearms Program has set a service standard of 45 days for application review, delays in making contact with these individuals, in receiving background check reports, or any number of other possible delays can account for an application taking longer than the suggested timeframe. We appreciate your concern, thank you for your patience, and request that you keep our office updated on your application, should you have any further questions.

Thank you again for contacting our office, and feel free to do so in the future with any other matters that may arise. Feedback from constituents such as yourself allows Mr. Gill to better represent you and all constituents in our great riding of Brampton-Springdale. We encourage you to continue to keep us informed as to what issues are important to you.

Regards,

Chris Armes

What a BS reply... respond with something to the effect that this is beyond unacceptable and this entire farce needs to be done away with since the Lib appointed staff are intentionally causing such artificial delays.

The CPC needs to get off it's ass and abolish C-68 etc... instead of merely working on elimination of the LGR... since the rest of our current laws for the law abiding are a farce and do absolutely nothing about the actual criminals.

So... do you want my vote as well as others... or do we look for an alternative that will actually get off their ass???

Sorry to be blunt.. but #### or get off the pot.

I called on Friday and they said it is sent to local office and should take a few weeks, I asked them the extension for the local office and got hold of a nice guy at their office, he approved my application in 5 minutes and now I am waiting for the mail.... So calling and follow up really makes the difference....

By local office, do you mean CFO? And which province are you in?

My progress:

Serves me right for being an optimist. Mailed not too long ago - June 27, received July 4, CC charged July 25. Called today to ask when I could try and interview/have people call and was told, "They're barely working on it".

Sigh, was hoping to shoot this summer.

I feel your pain,
received jun 19, I called today as I do every week and got the same stock answer ,"they are working on it, very busy, "

and I might get it some time this year.

ok so they are busy, just don't take my money and do nothing, you do that enough already!

As an aside for anyone: after calling the 1-800 number it's 1-2-2-2-1 to get on hold for a person that can tell you, well, nothing really. (English)

Yep, I've got that sequence memorized at this point. Phoned again this morning, same old "your application is still in the initial processing stage" crap. I asked why they've been working on it for two months and nothing has happened, all I got was "Just because we received it in June doesn't mean we started working on it right away."

What? o_O

Application received in Miramichi June 6th. Called today and found out they needed address of one of the references. Called back and provided the information and then was able to do my interview. Hope to have all interviews done by the end of the week and then see how much more waiting is involved. online status check has not worked or provided me any info at all.

If the new site doesn't show you any information (never did for me) use the old site it will have your application number
or just ask them for your application number and get your references to ring in (1-800-731-4000 option 1,1 x 2533)
