Shorten PAL Approval Times

126 days... Called the CFO office in MB this morning. Phone answered first ring (always had more luck early in the morning). Lady was nice, said they have all the info they need and its in que on the CFO's desk. I asked how long I should expect to wait? Reply was I don't know. Ok well maybe just tell the CFO I called and if he needs to reach me he can call me on my cell.
Fast forward 30min CFO calls my references again, same old questions. Then I get a Blocked call on my cell, its the CFO. Says sorry it took so long lets get you that licence so you can go hunting. I say thank you and hang up. 5 mins later I check the website and its status is ISSUED!!! Without following the advice here on CGN and calling week after week, always checking for misinformation, progress reports and just basically making sure my application didn't fall behind a desk, its finally been issued. I am sure without a doubt if I hadn't persistently followed up week by week I would not have received it in time this year. Thanks to every one here!!

They told me the same bs so I answered the following : how come was my credit card charged then ?

The day after my application was being processed online... governement desk jockeys

I asked the same question in early July and was told about a delay due to the volume of POL holders updating to PAL. Guess I should have been more assertive, my status just changed to 'issued' today (20 Sept). Congrats to you, hope the rest of your wait is brief

If anyone wants to get their PAL faster. Do these steps:

1. Call 1-800-731-4000 and go through the menu items and speak to a person.
2. Tell them you need your PAL for employment purposes, they will ask you for proof... tell them you will try to get something from your employer.
3. Call them back a week later and advise that their employer said, "You need your PAL to apply" and that "We can't give you anything in writing as that's confirmation of employment" and that "Your still in the hiring process".

If you do that correctly, they will have noted your application on the first call that the PAL is for employment purposes and the second call will justify why you can't provide proof of it. They will then push your application into a RUSH queue. And your application will take only another 10 business days to hit the status of "ISSUED".

I did the above process. PAL status says ISSUED and I'm now waiting for it in the mail. :)

If this works for others, please post feedback... Thanks!

I was under the impression that there was a 28 day waiting period from the time they received your application, period.
Not sure how you can bypass this just because you "need it for employment" if this works good for you but remember that these forums are watched by the rcmp and you are giving false info on an application.

Pal application sent in July 17,they received it July 22. One phone call placed in Aug 30 to check progress.Same old answer of
"It takes at least 45 day to process" . Waited some more with no change on web site until Sept 9 when it changed to "Initial process completed". Then on Sept 17 application has been processed and your licence has been issued. No references called. But it still has not arrived in the mail yet.. So from time I challenged cfsc to it being issued was 96 days!
Feels like forever.. Good luck to everyone else!

96 days seems to be right in the ballpark for normal processing times right now. Been following posts for a few months and it seems like its 45 days to show up online and 90 to process. As for the no references called part, Im assuming that's because it was a PAL not RPAL right?

My application was received on July 22nd as well. I am guessing that was just for your PAL not RPAL?
Mine is still in the " Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

Yeah I just applied for my pal and not for an rpal. If I were you I would call them and politely
ask if all is ok with the application. From what I read here on this forum is that it seems to take the westerly C F O longer to process. Not sure why but that's what I've been reading. But at least your is going through the motions. It's status is online witch is a good thing..

There is the mandatory 28 day period regardless... unless you are some uber connected politician etc...

However if everyone does as Titi suggests it will only continue to gum things up.. now I as everyone knows I'm sure think the pathetic delays etc are PATHETIC and just more BS from the Gov.. esp the CFO's (like wyatt the ###### in Bantario).. but a routine calling system while raising hell with your MP/MPP etc is in the end going to be more effective since we don't want the system to be faster.. we want it GONE...

Bantario is the slowest CFO by far AFAIK..

Yeah... Here's what I've done when I read this: TRIED IT !!!

So I politely talked with the lady, mentionning that I was considering a job for a cash carrying company (GARDA in my area) and that I absolutly need my licence in order to apply for this position. She nicely answered that if it would speed things up, everybody would call in order to speed up their applications, which make sense because I tried it. She did inform me that if you were to submit 2 applications at the same time (RPAL and PAL) the RPAL would be processed faster due to the fact that most people applying for RPAL need it for work. I highly doubt the ratio ''worker VS gun enthousiast'' is what they say but anyway... There is still the 28 days ''cool off period'' that you WON'T bypass by anyway or means, its there, we gotta live with other people's mistakes.

Lets continue. I was also told that this time of the year was the worst time to send applications (august/september) due to ''last minute hunters'' jamming up the queue, thinking they'd be ableto get their licence own time for this year hunting season.

I then told her that it was worth a try and that I would wait for my licence to come in before applying.

So that was my review for this ''trick'' if anyone wants to try it for themselves and give us some feedback, go ahead.

I applied for RPAL in May in anticipation of using it for this hunting season. Only last Wednesday did the status switch to issued.

22 July - Submitted RPAL Application
25 July - Received by RCMP
23 September - My interview + 2 reference interviews complete and status changed to issued

Currently waiting for it in the mail.
