Shorten PAL Approval Times

I'm still new to this, but I think I can go to some place like Cabelas and buy a handgun. Then I phone the CFO and ask for a short term transfer permit to take the pistol home without having a membership anywhere. For a long term ATT I DO need to be a member of a gun club that allows handguns. I got mine online at Wolverine Supplies , essentially an online purchase and (with wolverine at least) I am required to be a range member BEFORE they can ship the gun to my home address. I asked, but they also will not ship the handgun to Cabelas for me to be able to go pick it up there. Something to do with it being restricted. Needless to say, I anticipate a membership within the next week. Like yourself, I can't hardly wait to go put holes in paper down range.

You can and remember.. you do NOT have to be a member anywhere to get any ATT ST or LT!... that is not a legal requirement at all despite wyatt's BS..

Newbie here as well so please be patient with me. I have been reading but I read one thing and forget the other so I understand you don't need to be a member in order to apply for a ATT. Fine. But do you need to be a member of a club in order to purchase a handgun. I'm still trying to understand all this legal stuff.

UPDATE

August 7th - PAL Application mailed from Ontario
August 12th - Application received
September 11th - Credit card charged
October 8th - Application shows up online, initial processing completed.
October 17th - Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. (HAPPY DANCE!!)

66 days total to process.

There is no legal requirement at all in any of the firearms act for anyone to be a member of any club. So anyone that tries to say otherwise esp the CFO's are full of it.. The CFO's esp saying "it's policy".. to which you respond "but Policy is NOT law". Therefore process my ATT application since membership is not a legal requirement.

You need to read the thread(s) on this battle :)

So funny cause I did call and they said exactly what you just stated was going to happen. So I didn't buy it at all. Called al fleritys and asked the same thing. They said nope come on over and buy what you want. No need to be a member just can't do anything with. Awesome there for I put a hold on a kimber 1911 crimsom trace 2. Thanks guy for input.

Hey

Yeah I did check online it still says Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. I'm now 63 days from date the application was received.

Anyway to speed it up by calling the Ontario CFO? Or will it just be a waste of time.
With me it was right away. Like 30 min later my profile was updated. Did you go online and check status

Well they are predictable... if it's stupid BS the CFO will spew it!

Hmmm, I just called CFO (edit CFC!), asked if anything was missing on my app. She asked how long ago I mailed it. I was honest and said last week (they got it yesterday via express post). She told me they are back logged and to wait 4-5 weeks to call back. She didn't ask for my name :(

Wonder if I'd get a spanking if I said I mailed it 46 days ago?

Why would you call the CFO that soon since it gets mailed to the CFC?

Just to help people keep tabs on the current time frames. This is for a non-restricted PAL

Sent my PAL application (just for non-restricted) about August 17th.
Says they received it Aug 23.
Credit card was charged on Sept. 20th.
From end of Sept it showed up as "completed initial processing and is in progress". Called Oct 8 and was told it was in the "early stages, wait till the end of the month and then call back"
Shows up as approved and printed Oct 18th

so 56 days. Neither I nor any of my references were contacted.

Quebec CFO are telling that there is a 3 weeks delay between the moment they receive it to interview/approval/issue then its the ''you should get it in the mail in 2 weeks'' thing
