Kinda glad I got to read this thread before the "cleaners" arrived, lol.

Anyway...I have the blued/walnut M70 Fwt CRF in .270WSM and there ain't no feeding issues with it. I stuff enough powder under a 140gr Accubond to equal factory ammo according to the chrony and it works fine. But personally, I like the feel of my (lighter) pushfeed M70 Fwt in .270WCF better. Sure the WSM goes a bit faster but the trade off is a fatter barrel and heavier rifle even if it is a short action. Both rifles wear Decelerator pads so recoil is kind of moot to me. And with the old .270, I've taken deer out as far as I'll ever shoot so the WSM doesn't give much gain for me, but to each their own. Maybe it's time to sell the WSM and stay with what works...;)

I'll add my 2 cents to the thread topic....

While I've got rifles in 6.5x55mm and 7x57mm and love the old classics, I also have rifles in .264 Win Mag and .300 Win Mag.

I have yet to venture into the WSM area. The only one I think I would be interested in dabbling with would be the 7mm WSM. Probably on something like a Browning Abolt stainless stalker. The issue that the 7mm WSM, as far as WSM's go, may be falling out of favour is no matter to me. I reload so as long as there is .270 or .300 WSM brass then I could make 7mm WSM from it.

It is true that some short mags had feeding problems when first brought out notably the M70 push feed but it was soon changed to a crf push feed. Savage has changed mags so they feed like a single stack.Feeding problems should not be an issue unless you pick one of the early Win push feeds.

WSM's are pretty common now. European metric cartridges are obscure. Nothing wrong with them, but they are not popular here. WSM's fill a market for guys wanting more power out of a short action rifle. Same with the less common SAUM. Gotta love the handling of a short action!:D

In spite of the fact that it could be the least popular of the so-called short mags, I really like the 338RCM.
Does it equal a 338 Win Mag ? Possibly with factory ammo, but not with my handloads and the rifle itself is a more accurate shooter than my last two 338 Win mags not to mention being in a lighter and very handy package.
