Shorty M14 presale + .308 ammo deal

Got my rifle this week. Everything is in working order but for the rear sights. Elevation and Windage knobs are very stiff and won't adjust. Does anyone have a fix for this I can do myself or do I have just replace the entire thing

Got my rifle today, it made a good first impression, really good for the price. It didn't come in a gallon of mystery grease, like the last mew M14 I bought. The stock is better than expected. I may not get a chance to shoot it for a while, but after a detailed teardown and inspection, I know it'll be at least OK...which is to say, GREAT for the price.

Thank's CanAm, nice doing business with you again!

If anyone wants to put their shorty in a USGI fiberglass stock , it can be done.
the receiver dimesions on my shorty are different than my 2 polytechs and another Norinco I compared it too .
The area under the trigger housing has to be worked on as well as the trigger pads but it can be done.
Dont forget the trigger test after assembly.

I got a black synthetic Springfield Armory M1A stock on route I'm curious to see if it will fit. The owner already modified it for the chinese receiver but the only mod was on top and not the bottom. From the pictures he sent me there is some cut outs on the bottom (like the ones you had to make) for the trigger assy. Hopefully it will work..

I found the shorty needs more room under the trigger guard and a little more cut under the trigger pads than the 2 polytechs I have and the Norinco I tried as well. The original shorty stock appears to have a deeper cut under the trigger guard .Just work on those areas shown in my pics and keep doing the trigger assembly test until it will pass the test, then smooth it out nice for painting.
Dont forget to do the popsicle stick fix (if it hasnt been done already) for the op rod guide pin issue .... as the pin has a habit of trying to walk out on you .

See my pictures? There seems to be cut outs already, I have only seen those cut outs with SA synthetic stocks. Im thinking I may luck out...

My two fiberglass stocks both had the cutouts as well , I believe they may have to be made deeper on yours too. Try your shorty in it once you have it assembled and do the trigger assembly test ...are you familiar with that procedure ??

My shorty requires deeper cutouts than the other ones I have and a couple Norincos I tried as well.

i dunno i kinda like to make my rifle exactly the way i want it instead of having a few of the same but slightly different. Any one know if a guy could just get the 18.5" barrel anywhere

I didnt read every post on this thread since i ordered my combo pretty early on , but was i the only one who didnt know the ammo was steel jacketed ? I knew it wasnt corrosive or steel cored but found out today i couldnt shoot the ammo at my indoor range . At least i didnt find out the hard way and i can always put it on the EE .

Funny, I always thought all surplus military ammo was steel jacketed. Since the new ammo in the deal is corrosive, someone will buy the non=corrosive stuff from you.

Hey,

So I got my SA synthetic stock today, I lucked out and didn't have to make those cut outs deeper. Everything went together extremely tight, but it did go together none the less and passed the function test. (the safety sear engaged when I held the trigger down and re-cocked it)

I did find one issue though... The Ultimak rail does not fit properly. The rail sits too high in the front and looks weird. The very front lug mount is too narrow for the barrel, ie the barrel doesn't taper enough towards the end. I'm going to have to sand the front mounting surface down so the barrel bottoms out properly in that channel.
