Norc chopped to 18.75" and threaded to 1/2-28tpi by Dlask. Troy MCS chassis with Magpul PRS stock and Tango Down pistol grip (s**tty grip). Tango Down bipod. Muzzle break is Alberta Tacticals AT15 .223 break overbored for .30 cal. Aimpoint Comp2 sight. All on, it weighs in at 13.6lbs.

simpleton, what is the threads on that AT15 muzzlebrake? I just received my 243 barrel(SA barrel) for another shorty M14 build from Brobee ... I'm thinking I'd like to use one of these brakes but haven't decided yet! :D

So this is same as USGI threading? So when they bore it out for 30 cal it get's rethreaded? Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm just tryna understand. I think I found a LRB gas assembly, oprod ... hoping to get this 243 M14 shorty project done this year ... last shorty project took me several yrs ... screw that! HAHA. i've checked out LRB's internet site and they have a M25 receiver with rear lug ... somebody explain the reason behind the rear lug for me please? Let's see some shorty M14's folks. :D

Hi Jason,

No, that's the AR15 thread.

The rear lug as only one use: giving more recoil surface so that the glass bedding last longer because less stressed.
If you don't bed your stock, it's only extra weight and can't be used with Sage or other specialty stock. And you can't take it off.

hey Phil thanks for the info. i plan on using this 243 M14 build for hunting ... so I won't need a lug on teh receiver i suppose. I'm still lost on the threads of that brake simpleton's got ... I really like the idea of a scope rifle with nothing to catch on the front such as iron sites. I'm getting parts from here and elsewhere and hope to do this build in less than a year ... took me several years to get parts for my M14 norky shorty in this thread ... not waiting that long again. HAHA LET's see some projects and completed rifles folks?!

When you chop a Norc M-14 barrel there is no longer enough "meat" to thread it to the normal thread pattern. All the M-14 barrels you see chopped are threaded to the .223/ar-15 pattern standard 1/2-28tpi threading. You will have to get in touch with whoever you are getting your .243 barrel from and specify a thread pattern, or find out what it is if it's already manufactured.

:redface::redface: So this barrel is a Springfield Armoury one ... is that the same threading as you described? :redface::redface: Sorry for the dumb questions. HAHA ... got my LRB gas system today ... WOOHOO! :rockOn:

Your barrel was cut and threaded to an m1a/m14 thread pattern... .595"-32 tpi i think. Same as a GI m14 / m1a castle nut.

So should fit a brake that was threaded for 30 cal ?
 
Here's my most recent aquisition. nabbed it off of the EE. Almost everything is done for me already! Just needs a scope mount and a new stock (the norc stock is a tad fugly). this is my new favorite gun, it is very fun to shoot! It has a UTG rail on it, I should probably try to get the side rails for it not that I need them for anything...
