Shorty M1A, M14, M305 projects ...

that looks great. Practical ... and I hope it didnt cost you the $600-$900 that the chasis options cost. Are you producing for other CGNers ;) ?

Any drawbacks?

Received USGI parts so far for my build.

- stocks(few to choose from)
- oprod, spring
- castle nut
- 243 barrel
- 3 flash hiders to choose from
- gas system

Currently working on a deal for a trigger group and bolt. Will need to import a receiver from LRB one of these days when I come up with the funds. I'm really hoping to get this build done in the next year. :D

Let's see some of your shorty projects folks ... ;)

As a dealer/manufacturer on this site who specializes in USGI stock mod custom stocks, if you are looking for your USGI fiberglass stock to be modded into a professional, proven, tested custom product. please email or p.m. me.
The adaptors and methods of fabrication i have used for the past 3 years have passed the test with over 160 stocks in circulation on CGN alone, with 3 different models and a 100% track record for a quality product with a zero failure rate. All my stocks, even the usgi stock mod versions, come with a repair it for life guarantee in the event the modification fails.
if you want grip options such as MOE capability on the CQB version, this is easily accomplished, though with the coomb that high, you will lose use of your irons.
pricing for all 3 stock mods is very reasonable, please visit this thread for details

Well, here's my contribution. This is my first post w/ a pic so i hope it worked.
2009 M14 bought from fellow CGNer, dropped it of at Dlask, shortened and installed one of his gas blocks and XB3 flash hider. Installed on an Archangel stock also bought from a fellow nutter. Hoping to take it to the range for the first time next tues!:D

You mean besides the obvious?

Otokiak, you mentioned getting a .243 barrel. Do you have to modified the mags to feed .243 or are they good to go?

That is the 243 barrel ... I didn't even think of the mags to be honest ... hmmm! :D

Well .243 and .308 are the same brass right - .243 uses a necked down .308 case. So there should be no problems loading the mag, the bolt should pick up the round and strip the round out of the mag. I'm wondering about feed issues going into the chamber. I believe its good to go, but I'm not sure - that's why I thought I'd ask.

Yep I don't forsee any feeding issues ... I do need to get some mags though. As for the picture I was just playing as to what was missing. Still got to get imported eventually when I have enough $$$ is a LRB M25 receiver ... I also need a flash-hider(can't decide on what kind) ... a scope and sling.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - just a flash hider - shouldn't need a muzzle brake on a .243 with that much mass. How do you plan to mount the front sight? Or are you not going to bother with irons?

No irons ... I'm thinking so far ... shall see ... as the front gaslock has a platform for the front iron's if needed ... I also have another gaslock that has nothing.

I'm sort of intrigued by your build. What if you mounted a top rail with rings for your scope (scout scope or something), didn't use your ARMS18(?) mount, had flip up irons that co witnessed (not sure if you can do this with a scout scope) and went with the lightest stock you could get.

Put the whole gun on a weight reduction regime - I wonder how light you could make it?

I'm hoping to get the LRB M25 receiver down the road so it would have a rail on top to mount my optics and nothing on the sides like the ARMS mounts or others. I will be hunting with this yes ... mostly tuktu(caribou) and probably some seals. Terrain would be lots of tundra, rock and then snow ... ;)
