Shorty M1A, M14, M305 projects ...

Sounds interesting, I can understand why your thinking no irons. I've never hunted caribou or seal but I'm thinking you could have a nice stable platform for mid to long range shooting with no recoil. Will the .243 get the job done? Will you use a bipod?

Whats missing?

243 is plenty for tuktu and natsiq ... ;) I doubt it on the bipod question as I'll most likely have it on my back while riding my snowmobile, on the rack of my ATV or sitting in my boat. I am making it hopefully to be somewhat light ... not that I ever complain about a heavy rifle though ... ;)

POST YOUR SHORTY PROJECTS folks ... let's see'em ... :D

I wonder if I should scout scope this thing? What do you think CGNer's?

I found this picture off the net ... I'm curious what types of scopes would work with the scout mount/handguard?

one of my clients a while back had me set his M14S-CQB Squad build up with the same mount in your picture. The initial build was provided with an eotech but this was later switched out for a leupold long eye relief optic. I'm not a fan of how the long eye relief scopes on the scout rail looks....... but using that as a basis for not using one is silly on my part hehehehe

Having been searching for high end optics for a couple of my rifles, and the fact that i have one of those scout mounts stashed away...... there is a Night Force long eye relief i looked at a few weeks ago..... can't recall the model off hand..... but etched recticle, illuminated, plenty of eye relief for the scout mount...... pricey, but it would be my choice. Check out the leupold, nightforce, and maybe vortex(?) lines of long eye relief models. Others will chime in here hopefully as i'm pretty limitted in my knowledge of the best optics. One thing i do know, I will only put etched recticle scopes on my m1a/m14 rifles from now on hehehe

Hey guys, im looking to get the vltor modstock kit for my norinco, but i also want to find the CAS-14 rail system for it. I have looked on the Springfield site for it as well with no luck, any ideas?
Also i plan on taking it to Dlask to get her cut down to 18 5/8-3/4, pop on a aimpoint or a scope, havent decided yet but its gonna be ###y!
What internal mods should be done for an all around med-long range shooter, and throw in a 3 gun shoot every now and again

or at the very least mount a rail for a forward grip and light, bipod etc.
Im not too keen on drilling into a $500 stock without proper advice haha but i figure it can be done but i am definitely open to suggestions, i figure buying a rail, and a tri rail, would be cheaper then the guestimated $500+ for the springfield rail

Leupold has a 2.5x scout scope. I think that's basically the good option. If this is a plinker the NCStar scout scope is okay so far, got one on a CZ858, pretty good for $50!

forget the Vltor
it's a usgi stock chopped and an adaptor screwed in...... worth 500 plus to get one in canada? last i saw them they were just over 600 from fabsports i believe. Not an item readily availlable in canada. Our U.S. brothers are enduring 2 month wait time at present according to my recent queries.

If you want a Ar accessory type stock with bottom or side rail options that come professionally installed..... shoot me a p.m. or check the link in my sigline ;)

also, vltor will have a new handguard m14 rail out very shortly if not already..... might be worth checking out. If yer stuck on the chop mod stock they offer, you might get lucky and be able to have an importer bring it in as a package.

Very nice Drewz ... man I can't decide if I should just go scout scope and use a Norc receiver ... but I really want a LRB top rail receiver ... :D

Dang H2O, that's nice!

I think the saying might need to be modified from, "Don't buy one, buy two" to "Just buy a crate full and get it over with, you know you want to"

Otokiak - I'm just planning to use the original polymer stock with the new Dlask bottom rail for my bipod and short vertical grip... Depends if I find a Sage EBR for the right price ;)

Ive been playing with the UTG rail .. and its got that cheap feel to it .. I will hold off for a ULTIMAK or DLASK ...
