My biggest complaint about the stock M305 is the unwieldy length in the bush. I realize that a shorty would look strange without a brake, but is there other any reason not to leave it off and the barrel unthreaded? Is the legal barrel length measured with or without the brake? Or are there brake options that are so short as to add insignificant extra length? Remember my M305 is like a Mastercraft wrench from Cdn tire. It's useful and inexpensive and I have no problem modifying it visually if that gets the job done for me. I'm not discussing chopping up a collector's item, right?
Hi Emerson,
I don't know if you're still looking for a solution or not. I feel the same way you do about the flash hider, so I just chopped it off behind the veins (slots). It was then rounded off on a lathe and quick blued. My M14S is now 2.5" to 3" shorter but still has the original front sight. I believe the original spec for the M14 included a flash hider because it was select fire, and on full auto the hider would come in handy. Since full auto is evil in this country
