Shorty/SBR Precision Rifle

Here is a shorty I put together on an Ultimatum Deadline. 16 inch IBI barrel in 6.5. Trigger Tech Diamond and ESS with folding stock. Athlon Ares ETR scope which is probably a bit much but I had it laying around so it works for now. Nice and compact for storage but still pretty heavy for off hand shooting. Havent worked up a load for it yet but stretched it out to 800 with 123g ELDM load I had for another rig.

Got her in the mail today folks!

If I hadn't have caught the CP worker it would have been delivered a street over to the wrong person...

Rem 783 Action, IBI 12.5" stainless .308 barrel, MDT LSS, Magpul CTR (riser on the way), MDT vertical grip, some extra muzzle brake Jerry had laying around with a blast redirector. Thanks to Jerry at Mystic Precision for putting together this awesome rifle! Magpul sling swivel bipod on its way. Vortex strike eagle 3-18x44 /w vortex rings riding on top. Gonna load up some ammo and get out to the boonies asap!

Very nice. What does it weigh?

Neat little build. You going to use it as a truck gun?

I like that MDT chassis on that build. A Pork Sword chassis would've been another great candidate.

PS - don't be afraid to scratch your rifle, they are tools. Use them for what they are built for. I have scratches and wear marks on all of my rifles, even the really high dollar custom ones.

8.2lbs sans scope, and 9.6 with scope and rings. Bipod will make it more like 10.5. It does have a pretty heavy profile barrel though.

If they made a pork sword for a 783 I'd consider switching just for weight savings, but I do like having a proper stock that I can rest on for extended shooting sessions.

Its purpose is primarily LR fun, second wildlife defense camping (going to switch out optic for a bushnell lil p for that), and third hunting.

I'd love to leave it in the truck for general purpose but I live in the city, I'd probably sooner use an sks for such a purpose just in case it got stolen. When I visit the farm or am out in the boonies it will be with me for sure.

This one I'm not afraid to scratch because I wont be selling it. I don't toss my rifles around much but when it gets some wear and scratches I wont be crying about it. I'll probably paint the action and barrel at some point.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Mine is definitely the poor man's budget build compared to that haha

With all of the semi-auto bans going on;
I think this style of gun is about to become much more popular.

But everyone please be careful not to rack the bolt too quickly between shots.
We don't want these to get labelled as "assault rifles".

.

You could wait an hour between shots and these will still end up on a Turd Reich sh1t list at some point.

Cant see it being an "Assault Weapon" though, "Compact Sniper Rifle" is my guess.

IMHO the MTD chassis with the open barrel is not an efficient choice for this type of platform. The complete hand guard will be become mainstream. Burn some fingers once and I am sure owners will throw the rifle into the lake.

I agree but the lss xl is a big drop in weight compared to a closed In forend on the ess for example. I switched out the one I posted above and shaved about a pound and a half. As a compact rifle feels way better. Rate of fire has to be pretty fast to worry about burning your hand.

Driller have you had it out yet?

I have a couple of times. I've been trying loads for my 168 grain bullets as I have a lot laying around. As I suspected, it doesn't like lighter bullets too much (1-2moa groups), so I need to try some heavier bullets. Although they work just fine for something that is realistically a 500yd or less rifle, I want to see what she is truly capable of for accuracy.

The 700CP looks like an interesting little package!

I’m building an Spectre LPC in 7.62x39, 14.5” MRA 1/9.5twist CMC 2.5 trigger

I think the 7.62x39 is a great round for a shorter precision build, A short 308 would be a heavy hitter!

I'm unconvinced that 7.62x39 and precision belong in the same sentence unless it also includes the word "not".

That in a really short rifle might be a really fun short-range toy, but for serious use I'd lean to something built around the 308.

That will be interesting to see

a 300 blackout with supersonics would be alot easier to make sub-moa than a 7.62x39. infinitely better selection for high quality brass and bullets, all you need is a $40 chop saw and $20 jig off of Amazon and you can make blackout cases from 223 Lapua brass if you wanted.
and the 223-based cartridges feed and extract much easier out of a straight-pull LPC/renegade than the Russian-based cartridges.
guys here have had good results building short-barreled 6.5 Grendels on these straight-pull receivers, which would give quite a bit more reach than the x39 or blackout.

just my $0.02.

Next to an SKS for size comparison.

This one is in 308Win.
