Shot gun or rifle for bear defense?

Not sure where els to post this, just wondering if a shotgun or a rifle( Ruger alaskan cones to mind) would be best for bear defense?
 
Depends on what type of bear you needing protection from. See big difference from a Black Bear to a Polar Bear. A Black Bear get Bear Mace, A polar Bear well that’s different high Power Riffle, Shot gun with Buck would most likely piss it off.:ar15:
 
870 12 Gauge. Three rounds of 1 oz slugs followed by two .000 buckshot. If you need to use the buckshot, you're in a bad situation.
 
Sarah Palins bear defense school taught her to use a 12 gauge pump with a bear banger in the chamber and slugs in the tube. Those were for brown and black bear. (as per her last show)

That charging target was pretty cool... the white women with those chinese babies was a wimp it made my stomache turn..
 
To the OP, as you can see there are alot of not so serious responses mainly because there are a million threads about this subject already. Either you're trolling or just couldn't be bothered to use the search function.

.22 short, man! $ peanuts! My family used it for decades to down big Beef for butcher in the barn! 1 shot 1 kill right between the eyes @ point blank, sawed off 22 single shot bolt action 6 inch barrel or less! Ha-ha, it now has rusted away when the barn collapsed about 20+ yrs ago!!! No, it was not registered!
Just play dead until the brute is inch's away and bingo, 1 shot between the eyes! Be brave!
