Shot Timer.

Well, we are Cowboy Action Shooting Posses, living the dream of the period ending in 1898.
Our firearms, dress and attitudes reflect that so.......
As far as the rest, we just need a basic device at the line.
Our diesel generators, computers, printers etc. are all set up for our clubhouse, but I'll admit we do use paper score sheets on the line and a pencil to take down the times, before they go on the computer, in the club house.

Keep on keep'n on as you are Cold Lake....my club was badgered into getting the newest timers and score reporting instruments avail. and it has been a complete cluster F with a capital F. They wont sync when their supposed to half the time...Ipads are going dead mid match when the old timers need a new battery in the spring and their good till next spring. Now only a few trained members are capable of keeping score whereas before, any wife or spectator could handle a pen & paper scoresheet....the biggest problem is that children are not allowed close to the firing line and their the only ones that know how to efficiently handle the things. So now we have to have the "new electronics operator" trying their best to prove the damn things, and someone else doing the scorekeeping "old school" ....and dont anybody try to tell you that the electronic results come out faster, they just dont, correct, hand done results are just as fast.
And dont get me started on the cost difference of all those I-pads, charging stations, printers, gas for the gensets that run constantly to re-charge...We have a dozen of the old school timers that cost us total less than one I-pad and some of them have been around for 15 yrs and still keeping perfect shot times.

I really want to see that ipad of yours that requires a gas driven generator to run on...

When I started IPSC people used to be locked down in a stats shack or spend tens of hours after the match to enter badly sribbled paper results into computer and with dozens of errors. That was over 10 years ago.

Of course, if people reject anything new, you get what you have. But really it takes a little effort to learn.

I can point you to two sites that have videos on how to use Practise Score: https://www.ipscalberta.com/resources.html and https://uspsa.org/practiscore/

hmmm...more proof that "artificial & intelligence" should not ever be used in the same.
sentence.

Artificial intelligence example...."Enter 110011101001110001110110 and now try to insert round peg in square hole, if it wont go now do a hard re-boot and enter ; 000110001100111010001101, if it wont work yet, now wait for directions from an Indian call center ...It will now work for you....for 2 days until some California Silicone valley dude with more "artificial intelligence" than anybody else fires off an unsolicited "software upgrade" that changes the square hole to a round one".
The "real intelligence" designer would have just drilled a round hole to begin with...

The intelligence is really about the willingness to learn new things. What you had described is stubborn stagnation. Nothing I haven't seen beforr. But hey, it is your choise.

BTW, you don't have to ne stupid to buy the new gear either. The Fire HD8 tablets are currently about $75 now on amazon for the boxing day sale. That is half the price of ruready timer as listed on their own website. Samsund tablets would be more, but well under the cost of 10 ruready timers.

Peddling? You making it sound as if my work is related to making, or selling timers or something.

For the most of us, shooting sports is a hobby, and if one could make their favorite sport all better, the only time for that is when you are off work.

But then again, I don't really care if your favorite timer is one of the ancient ones. I just don't take it as a good reason that device worked for some. Are you seriously suggesting that either of the timers on the marked is not exatly working? At least give some elaborate reasons if you want to recommend anything.

It was a choice between peddling or telling you that you are coming across like an #######. I chose the more polite variant.

On the topic of shooting timers - I am still using Speed Timer 3000.

That said, I ordered AMG. I really like the idea that you can use it for dry-fire. I do more of that now then actual shooting.

For anyone thinking about getting an AMG labs commander direct I've been hearing they are about 5 months behind between parts and backlog.

I've had an order in since the beginning of September ill try to remember updating timeline when it ships out.

Thanks for the info, ordered. I will post when I get it.

Cheers,

I was under impression this topic was about timer recommendations, and not about calling other people names. Though I don't care how I come across, when I see people pushing for vendors who didn't care to update their products in decades (literally) and no elaboration. I don't find that a good service to their users. Even if these devices still work, it changes nothing.

PS: don't even get me started on how many reshoots we've had at the matches when competitors shot PCC or rimfire guns and ROs been running the old CE or RUready timers...

OK Eugene you got me. Both sites I posted have how to use Practise Score Videos. I use the IPSC Alberta one regularly when I am teaching RO courses. I have looked at the USPSA ones and i don't think they are as well done as Dave's S. that is posted on the IPSC Alberta website.

The folks in our club that handle the scoring machines have watched & re watched all the available vids but still have issues....it's funny, this has been going on for 3 yrs now, and the 3 dudes that pushed for the purchase of all this equipment were front & center, all helpful as hell when first bought but then the problems started to show...within the first 3 shoots all these digital cowboys lost interest in being involved in trying to get things to work and not a one of them has been close to the registration shack in the last 2.5 yrs. other than to register for a shoot...they don't miss that.
The "new" president at the time the equipment was purchased and his wife (both very educated & intelligent people) have spent hours & days of their own time watching the "how to" vids, trying to make these things work everytime-all the time but still, invariably a glitch of some kind will show up at most shoots....but they spent the money & are determined not to garbage the whole issue...as of yet.

Actually I just spent an hour or so looking at Utube for a vid for Eunixx on how to use a pen & paper/clipboard but couldn't find a damn one...must be the only thing left in creation that's simple enough not to need a vid...so I guess your stuck with AI son.

All I hear the same bla bla bla repeated over again... Something got to be wrong out there, because this system is used at hundreds of matches weekly in a nearly a decade now.

If papers works for you, stick with it, but that does not mean it is the best system in the world, especially given that you haven't participated in learning it yourself and relaying information from 3rd party and someone else doing scores for you either way.

If you and your people can't figure out how to use Practiscore that is saying more about the people than the program. It is incredibly simple to use and provides perfect, accurate scoring, instantly, reducing the number of people needed for stats to 1 and the work to almost nothing.

Update in case anyone was wondering AMG lab is nearly 6months behind on orders. Just got notice mine shipped out today. Ordered Sept 3.

Still pretty confident their timer is worth the wait.

I've heard AMG is catching up on the old orders and are trying to fulfill new order within 4 weeks now...

I placed an order with AMG for two timers on April 10th and it just arrived today so more like 4 months. And it was shipped via ups so I got hit with $132 in brokerage/duty
