Shotgun barrel length legal question

In your mind is the enlarged chamber area included in the barrel length? Bore is measured after the chamber and before the choke
You better inform the gun industry beretta in particular as my beretta a400 12ga is stamped with a 18.6mm bore. I guess one of the oldest gun companies doesnt know to measure a barrel lol

Cool, when they want to run a test case to see if the legalisation holds up volunteer. And it's got nothing to do with what the company, you or I say where the bore measurement starts and stops. It's what the RCMP, LEO or Wildlife Officer charge you with and then the Crown argues before a Judge who will then decide. Theirs a reason Poly and the CGC wrote it this way.

And you volunteeting to be a test case.?

When measuring the length of a SG barrel do you stop where the choke threads start.

You are flogging a dead horse with that repetitive rant... I am surprised it even comes up anymore...

I'll volunteer to be a test case... I have a 12 gauge pump with a back bored barrel with Invector Plus choke tubes...

But as the government has stated and is currently accepting and the gun industry has accepted and used for 100 years... the bore of a shotgun starts in front of the chamber and forcing cone, and continues until the area where the choke is. Typically a 12 gauge bore measured .429". The largest part of the bore does not include the chamber... does not include choke tubes nor choke tube threads...

but it seems you want it to.

I dont know how you took all that from my post. My only point is that the law isn't the law just because the RCMP said so. Gun owners need to stop getting their legal advice from the CFP. Its like the sheep asking the wolf to decide whats for dinner.

Point is, who cares. Dont need to preach something that is legal, just because one judge might say it isn't.

Well I have a 12.5” on my 870 now. Sure nice for packing.
But every one that has seen it and knows nothing about guns says “wow that looks illegal”

Asked at the rcmp office. And got that same answer as when I asked if I could just have liability insurance on a jeep for hunting (like a atv) trailer it to the bush.

“We would prefer to not answer and possibly give incorrect information”

So I would like to plea innocent until proven guilty.

The key thing you say is “the government is currently accepting”.

It is NOT written into law, it is only the current convention. And this government or future governments can change that “acceptance” on a whim. No new law required, no debate, simply a change in acceptance. That is why the law is written as it is, much like the safe storage laws.

To think otherwise is to foolishly reject the actuality of the last 60 years of the gun control issue and enacted laws in Canada. The anti gun forces have made it plain there is no acceptable middle ground. There are only incremental steps on the way to a complete banning of private ownership of firearms.

With respect, I think the OP cares, which is why they asked.

And the point is, we don't know if its legal until a judge says so one way or the other.

No need to freak out about the truth. Our gun laws have been stupidly written for 5 decades and the sky still hasn't fallen, and the jails are not full of gun owners who ran afoul of various classification stupidities.

But if you are good with betting your liberty and firearms collection on whether the RCMP will be consistent, and support you in your legal interpretations at your trial, then fill your boots. Im at least a little bit reassured by the knowledge that it will likely never go to trial, and we will likely never know the answer one way or the other.

Stay classy.
