My 14” 870 will have Wilson Combat ghost rings and an Aimpoint H2.
My wife’s 12.5” 870 has a big dog and will have a Vortex red dot.
Our shotguns see use with bear bangers, rubber slugs, birdshot, buckshot, and slugs. I decided to set each up with a red dot for ease of use for any shooter. Add to that better targeting in low/no light, and under stress. Bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes, etc are real issues on our acreage. Sure a rifle setup with a light and optic might be a better setup but there are houses too close for comfort with a rifle round. Slugs and buckshot are far safer in my area. I need rifle like accuracy out to 50ish yards but limited projectile travel distance.
The shotgun is extremely versatile, the red dot makes it even more versatile.
