I've seen them used in a few movies, like No Country for Old Men. but how realisitic are they? do they actually exist?

I could be wrong but I seem to recall hear the tunnel rats in Vietnam had some sort of sound suppressor for their shotguns...

Woods characterization of the guy with the shootie when he's asked just how dangerous is he? Compared to what the bubonic plaque? no matter

Man was that guy cold blooded? what about opening scene (used a can of compressed air)

Please get of the car sir. Whats that? Please stand still sir. thwat

I think the loudness portraited in the movie is unrealistic, unless Mr Chigur was using his own low-powered handloads.

his shotgun was semi auto, low powered loads would be a no go, i think its a mossberg 930 ? i may be wrong.

the low level of sound is unrealistic for sure

what they usually do is have a 12g pipe, ported like its going out of fashion, into the chambers of the suppressor. that way the shot comes out the end like it would out of an non choked barrel

shotgun suppressors do exist

but you have to use sub-sonic shells to have the desired "pooofftt" effect..otherwise you will still here the crack when the slug breaks the sound barrier.
