Shotgun sub sections? (mods?)

Lump me in with the cranky geezers. Please!
Leave the sight and pistol grip equipped short barrel "shotties" to their enthusiasts, I'd rather not wade through all that stuff every time I want to read posts about real sporting guns. Since the term "Fudds" seems to be thrown about any time this discussion comes up, wouldn't it be a good thing if we didn't make the adolescent urban slug shootin' milk jug blasters uncomfortable with all our talk about classic and modern hunting and target guns?

This thread is FUDD-tastic!

Part of the problem is that those who only like the traditional guns, would never post. Being a FUDD means that everything is perfect the way it was. What si there to discuss. Nobody will post about buying a new gun, cause your classic from 67 still works fine. Nobody will post about fixing it, because guns from 67 don't break. Nobody will post about mods because they are perfect as they are.

I think we should leave the shotgun thread as is, but create a new OT subforum called FUDD: The cranky geezer's art of whining and closed mindedness. *Geezers wheezy voice* You damn kids!

So do you advocate eliminating the separate rifle sub-forums too? Maybe we should have just three sub-forums: handguns, rifles and shotguns? ;)

I think that there is enough diversity amongst shotgun enthusiasts to warrant specialty sub-forums. There is really nothing Fudd-ish about it when you think about it... Tactical shotguns are completely different beasts than high end O/U skeet & trap guns tend to attract different folks... Just like separating black & green guns from hunting & sporting guns, etc. Not a big deal, it just makes it easier to find what you are looking for.

Honestly it probably would be easier to make a "Snob" sub-forum. It's obvious which group of shotguns is more popular...

Its also quite obvious which group takes issue with the other. I agree. They should go make their own club. ;)

You never see a DA Grizz owner talking smack all frikin day about retartedly expensive O/U's and SxS's that the owners are afraid to get dirty or exposed to UV rays...

Just leave the forum as is.

I think there should be separate forums for those who like to take beauty shots of their guns, of whatever type, and those who actually shoot them.

I don't see the problem with the idea of a sub forum. I am a gun nut and enjoy all types of guns. But how would you divide it?

Action type, skeet, trap, sporting clay, cost, quality, classics?

How about: Hunting & Sporting Shotguns, Tactical (or "Black") Shotguns, and Classic Double Barrel (O/U & SxS) Shotguns?

I am against splitting into subforums. It is elitist and exclusionary.

Dividing into sub forums will mean the mall ninjas who like to look badass in the mirror brandishing their Outlaw will lose an opportunity to associate with their betters.

I admit it is sometimes a thankless task noting the deficiencies in their stubby Chinese POS sxs but it needs to be done. Who better than the experienced, thoughtful shotgunners in this forum who are willing to take the tactical tonys under our collective wing and provide guidance over and above what they learn watching MTV and playing video games.

It is worth the insults and the name calling to explain that Anson and Deeley are not a comedy team, that Greener isn't a web forum smilie and that a sidelock isn't a wrestling hold. These are the people who don't know the difference between a shooting peg and Aunt Peg, a forcing cone from an ice cream cone and do not comprehend that a rebounding hammer is not a construction tool.

How else will they learn the important things such as "furniture" when speaking of a shotgun does not refer to the stock if not permitted to rub shoulders with the upper crust of the shooting sports. ;)

And here I thought the Fudds were narrow minded.

How so, I have both an 14" 870 and an RBL 20ga double. Opposite ends of the spectrum and I appreciate them both. Just tired of wading through thread after thread of tactical shotties.

Though Claybuster does has a point in allowing those not so refined "an opportunity to associate with their betters", shows some real class and grace on his part. :p

Price has nothing to do with it.

.

kinda does. If I really needed to I would take the barrel off my mossberg and use it as a damn pry bar. Would one do the same with a 6000$ shotgun? Highly unlikely.

Ever seen a guy with a 3000$ O/U in tight ass cedar brush trying to find bugs bunny?

What I'm getting at is it'd be great to easily be able to find pertinent information about what I'm looking for. Hunting and Tactical (or whatever term someone wants to use) makes an easy divide. But in hunting an expensive field (O/U ... upland type or whatever) gun is VERY different than the Lakefield the poor guys bring out into the swamp to run coyote.

I like the idea of splitting them up, but for the same reason that we split up the rifles; because there are different types, not because I am an elitist and want to get rid of all the short black gun threads. In fact, I'm sure I'd find myself in the black shotgun threads more than the "finer" guns.

We have eight different sub categories for rifles:

Black and Green Rifles
Main Battle Rifles
Red Rifles
Precision Rifles
Hunting and Sporting Arms
Milsurp
Rimfire (granted, there is some discussion about pistols in here as well)
Blackpowder and Antiques (and some pistol talk in here too)

I say we need at least five Shotgun sub-sections:

Short and Black (isn't that an oxymoron?) ;)
Duck and Goose
Upland Game
Deer and bigger game
Clay Busting

Just my 2 cents.

Shorties and fun toys.

Hunting shotguns (under 2000$)

Garbage Shotguns (over 2000$)
Now this is exactly what I am talking about. Only someone of seriously limited experience and a closed mind would consider only guns under $2,000 worthy of taking into the field.

He needs our help. I don't believe he is beyond redemption, simply lacking in experience and exposure to the qualities that come with a fine shotgun. We can either dismiss or insult him to our detriment or we can guide and nuture him.

Let us, if presented with the chance, give him the opportunity to shoot a gun worth over $2,000. Admittedly he may never be able to afford it but he might be able to appreciate what a fine gun is. Let us see the smile, the sparkle in his eyes only to be followed by the realization that such a gun is and will forever be beyond his means. He then can live the rest of his life in resentful envy of those of us who can. :)
