Shots from a cold clean barrel.....two months later.

Why not?

Accuracy is certainly important, however consistency is paramount in a hunting rifle. There is nothing more pleasing than a hunting rifle that maintains it POI regardless of conditions.

Went to the range this evening to check my wife's rifle for bear hunting. These are two shots taken from a cold clean barrel, weather thirty degrees warmer.

Knowing that the bullet is going to go where it is supposed to, even though it has been months since you fired it last, is one of the most comforting thoughts as you are about to squeeze the trigger. :)

OH REEEEEEEALLY! .... The two in the middle look good, but the three shots with vert stringing on the extreme RH side of the page would bother me a bit.

Looks like the bottom one on the right hand side is starting to destabilize. Might want to check your throat concentricity.
Also, if your recoil pad is loose it can cause that too.

Dunno 'bout yu'all, but the top right was pretty darn close to that staple.
Appears the bottom right too.
Now the middle right, whatchoo smoke'in Ted?
Not choot'in that Wagner agin?

One in the 10" vitals works for me :) I think most decent barrels shoot well cold, clean, warm or fouled. It's the ones that don't that worry me.

I like stable rifles too... knowing where your rifle shoots is comforting.

I shot this target at 300 yards with my 338-06 in an area we don't hunt... on the first day after setting up camp.

One shot in 2010, one shot in 2011.

I love that old Lyman too Ted, it's one of three scopes that ride my 9.3x62, all of 'em in pre-zeroed Leupold QRW's.
Very light, good optics and FOV, and that post, it's quick, and just the ticket for real world iffy light shot placement.
No doubt, the lady will put meat on the table.

Cheers.

The only rifle I have, that I have changed the zero on in years, was on the .270 Sendero, and I only did that because I went from low mounts to medium height. That was like, last week. But that's a 'new' rifle to me. First time I ever adjusted it, since the original zeroing of that scope.

All the rest, hell I haven't had to change them in it seems forever. My M-700 .30-06, my M-700 .338... I haven't changed the scope settings since after I had those guns worked over by K&S Arms, Sept 20-1997. Like 16+ years...

The .338 is the same.
