Should I get my barrel threaded, or ... ?

Neither does a 22 or 223 but people put them on...Why ? Because it's their ####ing money, gun and can do what they please. Don't need permission from the peanut gallery.

Bet you still go on how recoil pads are for pussies. GET ####ED.

The OP asked for an opinion. I gave my opinion. If you wanna get butthurt about it, go right ahead. Sad excuse of a man that gets this twisted from things on the internet.

Oh, and get ####ed lol

I am looking at getting the barrel threaded as this thing has a lot of recoil, and maybe I just haven’t learned how to handle recoil correctly, but shooting prone off a bipod, I can’t keep the target in sight to watch for impact splash. Hence why I am exploring brake options.

You should practice your shooting form, as a 6.5 CM only recoils about 11lbs, 50% less than a 270 or 308 and only 20% more than a 243 and is very mild. Is the rifle very light? Do you have much experience shooting? Are you anticipating the shot too much?

Save your money or buy a gun with one already installed from the factory.
Chances are you will be in a race to the bottom of the rabbit hole looking for an answer that may or not be answered .
You money, your property and in the end it is your decision.

Try shooting off a bag. Bipod on a hard surface tends to have the gun jump. Or place a thick piece of carpet under the legs or thick rubber.

Buy a limb saver.

Personally I don't like spending that money to thread a barrel, then spend even more on a brake which many people (including myself) don't like because of how loud it is. I have a standard Ruger 308 and thought about options like you, ended up buying a limbsaver, problem solved. Amazon limbsaver $52.

To save having to buy a pad for each of my guns that recoils, or brake. I bought the limb saver shoulder pad. Fits comfy under a T shirt or Jacket.

OK, I will also look into a limb saver.

Whether it is worth it is up to you, but the fellas at ATRS in Calgary have done a few similar jobs for me and I always left satisfied.

ATRS and Calgary Shooting Center are two that immediately come to mind.
If you walked into Proline in Inglewood I'm sure they could point you to others that are local.

For a first class job of brake installation, it is nice to have the barrel set up in the lathe, threaded, the brake turned on and then bored to the proper ID. This way the brake is coaxial with the bore.
This is the best way as far as I am concerned... better than pre threaded and clamp on's.

Try bashaw sports, it’s not in Calgary, bit of a drive but they have an in house smith. I’m waiting for some work out of there right now. Call the shop or email them. Todd will get back to you promptly. He may laugh at you for wanting to put a break on a 6.5cm tho lol.

Your better of taking the money you would spend on threading the barrel and buying more ammo and getting used to shooting it more, isn’t 6.5cm supposed to be a soft shooting cartridge? I’m guessing there’s something in your technique that’s making recoil feel worse than it really is, as said already maybe a better recoil pad is needed.

Henry Rempel in Langdon can do it for ya.

Only reason to do it though is for when we’re allowed suppressors lol. And we will be in the near-ish future. A different conversation though. But really just wait and see.

I had Henry shorten a tikka for me and skipped the threading. Brakes are the dumbest thing ever, no one likes them, they offer no upside that comes even close to offsetting all the downsides. The only reason to be threaded is for when we get to have suppressors. Glad a couple of mine are threaded for that reason lol.

Well, there is the Communist Canucistan legality of dropping a rifle with someone that isnt licenced to aquire said rifle. Not all machinist will be licensed.
1) my shop has 4 pal owners in it, but im sure thats abnormal
2) the barrel isnt a firearm, its a shaft with a custom acme threaded ID.

If your goal is to see impact splash, a recoil pad is not going to help. A muzzle brake will.
