Should rifles be pinned at 5 bullets?

I have an SKS and I get annoyed that the gun is "pinned" to only except 5 rounds when the stripper clips have 10 rounds on them. I don't understand why we can't load 10 or more if the gun allows, if somebody snaps and goes on a rampage 5 rounds would be devestating hell one round would be devistating, I guess what I'm trying to say is if someone goes crazy he is going to do damage regardless of how many rounds his/her gun holds. I just think responsible gun owners shouldn't have magazines pinned at any number.

Wrong section to post this thread in ...... Yes some laws make no sense, governments never trust the people they govern , they make no brain laws to make themselves feel better and more in control . But its the law if you break it expect to face the consequences like losing your firearms ownership privileges for life and face criminal charges ..

Many gun laws in this country make no sense. You're best to just accept them because trying to rationalize them will lead you to insanity.

I believe the Montreal Massacre in 89 played a large part in the government's decision to put many of these laws in place, including the 5 round capacity limit.

We all know that even with a limit like that, Marc Lepine could and probably would have been capable of doing what he did that day, whether it's with a magazine that illegally holds more rounds, or just using several magazines pinned to 5.

It makes no sense, but that's how the Government works. When there's public pressure, they create laws to make them and others feel better, whether they make sense or not.

Nonetheless, wrong place for this topic. :)

Just think of it as a money saver ... you would just shoot more rounds if it could hold 30... and when sheet hits the Fan ... take your hand drill and un pin it ... well im thinking my CZ858 but with an sks it might be harder ... my norinco np 22 only has a 2mm thick piece of metal stopping the rounds at 10 ... *clip* ... just like locks, rivets and pins only stop the good citizens not the criminals.

Rounds fired are rounds fired, regardless of mag capacity. If you ever encounter a "shtf" (lol) moment that unpinning your magazine will aid you in your struggle I'm pretty sure your already boned or just taking the wrong approach to owning firearms.

I believe the Gov't made a mistake when passing the law to restrict clips to 5 shots.
What they meant to do was see that no weapon could fire 5 shots without reloading.
However, some people "cheat" and put one in the chamber, also. Giving them an initial 6 shots.
If they had a "do over", I'm sure they would limit us to 4 shot clips.
By doing so, it would have the potential to save at least one person per rampage.
Or better yet, follow the rules of the MNR concerning shotgun magazine restrictions,
while hunting migratory birds.
Two in the magazine, or clip, if it's a bolt action
Cheaters get a total of 3, with one in chamber.
Now be honest, isn't that all we really need?

there used to be, and probably still are, competitions that required 20 round or better mags-it's just that we haven't been able to compete for so long that we've forgotten about them- or re-written the rules to suit the law- the 5 shot thing was brought in to limit all guns to the same as "hunting guns", which is in the hunting regulations- however, when shooting varmints or other activites in which NO magazine limits are required, ( remember the 3 and 5 shot limits were brought in to limit market gunning) it makes NO sense whatsoever- ie if i want to play can-can on my range with my uzi( a perfectly SAFE practise, btw) i should be able to- same deal with zombie hunter or pick the ear off, shred the star, or whatever
remember, NOT ALL SHOOTERS ARE HUNTERS
and THEY'RE MAGS, OR MAGAZINES, NOT CLIPS

I know I would not want to face a gang of thieves in a shtf scenario with only five round mags, when the criminals will all have full auto and normal cap mags. But thats just me.

Good point. Also thread title should read "rounds" not bullets.:)

heh heh heh

Come out to CQB matches at Base Borden with the Ontario Rifle Association... You will be very astonished to see how fast some SKS shooters are with 5 rounds in a clip and then reloading! These fellas have practiced!

And even if I had all my mags blocked to 5 rounds, you will be very surprised to see how fast reloads can be done by master-expert class shooters like Plink, Pobcat, dudley2112, Bolivar, and JRW-QOR (with his M14). These guys can shoot! :D

In the meantime, the gubmint knows what's good for all of us (yah, right).... Laugh2

And whats even funnier is the fact that apparently the CFC or RCMP have permits you can get or could get a while ago that allowed you to use "high capacity" magazines , but someone told them to stop issuing them .. Not sure how much truth there is to this but its been mentioned more than a few times here .. maybe something to look into ?

I put a handle on my 5 round mags. It's a plastic cable holder. This is a 3/4" but a one inch would be better.
A 3/16 soft aluminum rivet holds it in, just drill the rivet out to take the mag apart.

Super fast mag changes with either hand without dropping on the ground, the second mag is already on another finger.
