Should rifles be pinned at 5 bullets?

I believe the Gov't made a mistake when passing the law to restrict clips to 5 shots.
What they meant to do was see that no weapon could fire 5 shots without reloading.
However, some people "cheat" and put one in the chamber, also. Giving them an initial 6 shots.
If they had a "do over", I'm sure they would limit us to 4 shot clips.
By doing so, it would have the potential to save at least one person per rampage.
Or better yet, follow the rules of the MNR concerning shotgun magazine restrictions,
while hunting migratory birds.
Two in the magazine, or clip, if it's a bolt action
Cheaters get a total of 3, with one in chamber.
Now be honest, isn't that all we really need?

Wow. Mods please ban this individual right now!!! We don't need blatant antis on the board spreading BS.

what i "need" and what i WANT are 2 different things- and NOT SUBJECT to YOUR INTERPETATION

I don't know who said it here first but:

God bless the rivet! Saviour of babies!

Yes the rivet has saved countless millions of babies, I know a rivet that actually ran into a burning nursery and managed to pull of 15! babies before breaking form thermal fatigue....

If only guns could only shoot rivets.... then life would be like QUAKE

First off I want to say im sorry for posting a thread on the wrong form, im new to this site and will be more mindful in the future. I've read all the responses and have to say I love the diffrence of views on this site, I've been on this site for about 5 days now and can't stop reading and learning from you all. One of the responses in this thread said that a person can do just as much damage with reloading as they can with an extended mag or something along thoese lines, that makes me think that if guns are pinned to 5 rounds then next is cars that are pinned to 20 km p/h after all cars kill more people then guns do

What's the problem? My Ruger Scout rifle holds 10, as does any Lee Enfield...Garands are okay because they hold 8 in a non-detachable mag....

Yeah, the law is a ass, as usual. I say that getting rid of this restriction, and the prohib status of _all_ long guns should be the next step in reforming Canada's gun laws...

All mags should be un pined and back to normal mag size, 20/30 etc, as only the honets gun owner ever complied to it, the rooks used what ever they wanted etc

got news for you- some cars have GOVERNORS and are already "pinned" - have been since the late 50's

True, but if you remove or reprogram the governor, you don't go to jail for it, unlike if I was to, say, grind off the weld on the mag baseplate and remove the block (for my pinned M305 mags).

Interesting thought but you're forgetting that by doing this, politicians would inconvenience themselves as well so there's about a 0% chance that will happen.

If you go to the Newbie section (how they wound up there I don't know), you'll see that I posted 2 short videos. One, where my wife shot a cow moose with an AK-47. She had a 30-pound mag, but fired a total of 3 shots. Never killed anyone. I used the same rifle to kill a couple of bears, 2 shots each - one to bring them down, a second just to ensure they were dead. i also shot a moose and a bear with the G3, one shot each, despite 20-round mags. The G3 would also fire grenades using special shells. I had some practice grenades, and unlimited access to explosives, yet I never robbed or killed anyone. The only thing that law has accomplished is that it made shooting a lot less enjoyable and a lot more bothersome for the law-abiding. Given that criminals are importing illegal guns, almost all prohibs, to them, a prohib mag is no issue either.

If we were not such pussies in this country and used guns for their real intended purpose we wouldn't have this problem ....

heh heh heh

Come out to CQB matches at Base Borden with the Ontario Rifle Association... You will be very astonished to see how fast some SKS shooters are with 5 rounds in a clip and then reloading! These fellas have practiced!

And even if I had all my mags blocked to 5 rounds, you will be very surprised to see how fast reloads can be done by master-expert class shooters like Plink, Pobcat, dudley2112, Bolivar, and JRW-QOR (with his M14). These guys can shoot! :D

In the meantime, the gubmint knows what's good for all of us (yah, right).... Laugh2

Right, the mag limit should help make most Canadians experts at reloads.:)

I am no expert. But not bad either. Actually would love to attend a course later in the year. Have not ever done one before. Just short of fund right now from lots of purchases.
Cheers.

Ultimately, this is just another law in a long line of "feel good" laws that are written by (well-meaning?) folks who know squat about guns. Truth is as simple as this:

Any magazine that you can alter to limit its capacity to 5 rounds, you can UN-limit with about 5 minutes of spare time and a rudimentary grasp of simple mechanics.

These laws will never prevent a determined psycho from using high-cap mags. If a person is crazy enough to want to kill 50 people, what's stopping him cutting off a ridiculous little rivet? Simply disassemble the mag, a few quick cuts with a dremel, and off you go with 30 rounds.

The law makes the ignorant masses feel good, because it seems like something concrete was done. But as usual, only those who respect the law feel any effect. Sadly, that law is probably here to stay, so get used to it.

This is only my opinion, my opinion is mine alone, you are free to question it and disagree with it, please don't flame.

** Why do we need 10 in the mag instead of 5? **
-Those strip clips are easy to manage, five in, fire them, slap the rest in
-It's not a hunting rifle, and if it takes 5 rounds to hit the target get glasses or classes.

As factionrr said, This is a fun semi rifle with dirt cheap ammo! Why complain?

Again, Why do we need more?
