Should rifles be pinned at 5 bullets?

** Why do we need 10 in the mag instead of 5? **
-Those strip clips are easy to manage, five in, fire them, slap the rest in
-It's not a hunting rifle, and if it takes 5 rounds to hit the target get glasses or classes.

As factionrr said, This is a fun semi rifle with dirt cheap ammo! Why complain?

Again, Why do we need more?

If you haven't figured it out I'm afraid you never will.

There are some of us that can remember the days of taking our AR's and Mini's with hi cap mags out to the local gravel pits with only a varmint licence needed to make it all legal. Spending a few hours rolling pop cans and some friendly competition made many great memories.
I can't help but wonder if some of the "shooters" on this site that support the 5rd rule take their 10/22's or 597's with 30rd mags out to their local "pit" for an enjoyable morning or afternoon.
Even though I'm sure that the 5rd rule will never be rescinded, something just doesn't seem right with the attitudes I'm seeing.:(

why?

because its cheaper to NOT put a 20$ rivet in a magazine,

because many shooting sports normally have a course of fire that exceeds 5 shots

and in case anyone forgot, during c68 it was recommended to at least make mags over 10 restricted devices, so this is stuff that would still be range only, but people who use them for legitimate sporting purposes can.

the more pertinent question is WHY put a 20$ rivet in there and expect someone who is willing to murder to not be willing to take a pair of pliers to a rivet.

DP,
The parameters are too narrow, ... when our lives are restricted by an authority figure's biased definition of "need", then we've lost the ability to define our own needs for our ownselves.

Freedom has been compromised.

I am old. I come from a time before there were 'gun control' issues in the way of my shooting activities.

A normal day afield back then, It ended when the <full mag capacity 7.62mm Main battle rifle> had chewed through all of the 20rnd mag's one could afford to fill at that time. No papers, no ATT's, no "on approved range only", no classifications/prohib's, no nothing required 'cept a hike out to the back forty, or the bush, and find yourself a safe backstop.

My Grandfather knew more freedom than my father did, I knew more than my son does, the grandson? ... you guessed it, .... less than his father's.

All these millions of solid Canadian citizen's, just like you and me, never have harmed a fly. Our want's/needs... proscribed ... by a faceless, uncaring beaurocrat.

Having known better, I know that, we deserve better.

Rant concluded :runaway:;)

Self defense, fun, because I want that many rounds. I need 10 (15,20,30, ∞) rounds more than you need a vehicle that goes over 110 kms, more than you need a motorbike, more than you need MANY MANY things. Don't ever think you can tell me what I need, scum bag.

I have many magazines over 5 rounds right now, they just have a flimsy rivet pinning them to 5. A better question is why shouldn't I be able to take the pin out? Any moron can see that someone intent on committing a crime will take the pin out.

Many gun laws in this country make no sense. You're best to just accept them because trying to rationalize them will lead you to insanity.

I believe the Montreal Massacre in 89 played a large part in the government's decision to put many of these laws in place, including the 5 round capacity limit.

We all know that even with a limit like that, Marc Lepine could and probably would have been capable of doing what he did that day, whether it's with a magazine that illegally holds more rounds, or just using several magazines pinned to 5.

It makes no sense, but that's how the Government works. When there's public pressure, they create laws to make them and others feel better, whether they make sense or not.

Nonetheless, wrong place for this topic. :)

It's not 'Marc Lepine' his name was Gamil Rodrigue Liass Gharbi: Son of a french catholic mother, and non-practicing muslim Algerian father.

and we need to have a group hug and chant 'guns are evil, it's our fault that 0.000000000001% of gun owners causes harm to someone else, therefore we need to be denied our freedom/raped for the greater good... never mind the fact that if one of us was present at E'cole Polytechnique on that sad day in 1989, and were permitted to carry concealed, we couldn't have changed anything because we'd most certainly be disarmed by the assailant and shot with our own handgun.' :jerkit: (at least we wouldn't have acquiesced to the guy's demand that all umm, "men" leave the room)

I think you should be born with the right to possess whatever firearm you want. If the government feels u should take safety training to own or use it then ok. But if you jump through all of their hoops and have never done anything wrong to prove that you should not be allowed to have whichever firearm you want that is wrong. If they are worried about criminals possessing prohibited or restricted devices they should have stiffened storage or transport laws instead of banning responsible enthusiasts from having them. Maybe 5+rd mags should have to be stored in a different place or something. I'd like to see what the statistics are in a place where the people as a whole have a similar mindset to Canadians where gun control isn't an issue. It puts serious kink in a plan to wreak havoc if you know you are going to die for trying it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

This is a POS country and a POS tyrannical government when it comes right down to it.

Then again, our POS government is clearly being controlled by a specific lobby with a specific agenda.

Whatever. Deal with it or get more clips. Does not matter much anyway. Try speed loading with 10, five round clips. There is no limit to the number of clips you have. :)

In conversation with regular non-gun owning Canadians I'm always getting asked "and why must you block magazines to 5-rounds?". Even the non-gun owners don't understand the logic behind this. Personally, I think this would be an easy change to the Firearms Act by the CPC. It'd sail through the public opinion polls with massive complacency in the public at large's eye.

The logic behind it is dead simple, were getting screwed via our own government and were taking it.

Then it gets even better ..... we look to the very government system for the solution. This couldn't get more laughable.

The more we take it the more its gonna happen. And no calling your MP and all this bull#### is going to change that fact.
