Should we whip those, who post SKS in the hunting FS forum?

it seems that the sks is falling into a sort of GRAY area as far as posting theards on this sight .is it a black/green rifle? a milsurp?a main battle rifle?i've seen threads moved from the main battle rifle area to the milsurp area, yet the m305 is generaly accepted as a main battle rifle without any confusion.what about the commercial norincos' ?the m305 is a great hunting rifle, while the sks is also a nice bush gun.whats to get mad about anyways?

The M14 platform is, and always been a Main Battle Rifle

The SKS/AK47 rifles are NOT battle rifles.

Battle rifles fire a full power cartridge, while the SKS/AK47 fire an intermediate cartridge.

Personally I think the SKS threads should be in the Milsurp Forum.Certainly not the Black Rifle Forum, and not really in the Battlerifle forum.;)

SKBY.

Where do you get this from?
Is there like an Offical Guidebook to what is considered a "Battle Rifle".
Just curious.

A battle rifle is one that fires a full power rifle cartridge (7.62 nato, 6.5X55 swede, 7.62X54R ect.) an assault rifle fires a mid power cartridge, and is usually select fire capable (mp 44, M-16, AK 47)

Technically, the smle WAS a battle rifle, as nothing says that a battle rifle has to be semi auto.

On a similar note, I see where the exchange forum has now declared that mil-surps should be listed in the hunting section.

Please Post Milsurp Ads in Hunting/Sporting Arms! Ads will be moved.
As the thread descriptions say, this forum is not for military surplus rifle ads. They should be posted in the Exchange of Hunting and Sporting Rifles forum.

Starting now, all new or newly BTT'd ads for milsurps will be moved without notice to Hunting/Sporting Arms.

Milsurp rifles include, but are not limited to: SKS, Lee Enfield, Garand, Mosin Nagant etc.

Thanks for your co-operation.

What gives? I own plenty of milsurps but don't hunt. I don't mind navigating through M305s, AR-15s, etc to find the true milsurps, but don't like navigating through through shotguns and Remington rifles to find them.

One would think military rifle exchange would contain the mil-surps, or else possibly a forum just for the milsurps, but hunting rifles???

Read Skullboy's previous post in this thread. Milsurps were always supposed to go in Hunting/Sporting. GT set the forums up so that Black Rifles would have their own Exchange forum.

So my Gevar M/38 Swedish Mauser is a Battle Rifle (6X5X55)...Cool! :)
Thanx Darren. :)

OK, so how about a milsurp exchange forum then? There are way too many commercial arms in the hunting section, and it's too easy to miss a milsurp hidden in the bottom of an ad full of hunting rifles.
Kind of a shame it's coming to this. Most of the Black rifles have military origions, and most of the guys who collect the milsurps migrate into the black rifles as well. The two overlap to the point where it is hard to draw the line between them. Is a sterling SMG a black gun or a milsurp? Are we going to see sterlings in the hunting section? How about stens? Is a semi-auto 1919 now a hunting rifle? Does the gun have to be restricted to make it into the military rifles exchange forum?

I agree with this idea, we'll see what we can do. I think it's the best solution for the milsurps.

Restricted and prohib milsurps would fall under the forum description and would stay there. A semi 1919 is certainly a "cool gun" as per the forum description and would stay too.

Well, I'm already irritated beyond belief with trying to sort the milsurp from the other crap in "hunting and sporting arms"...
