Show off your Ruger No.1's

You know, I've been thinking lately about buying another #1 or maybe 2, in 9.3x74R &/or .450/400, but having owned a few over the years, including an engraved .375 H&H, a .500 N.E., a 45-70, a .30-06, a .303 and having sold them all, I figured, why bother. I mean, compared to this Scottish beauty, those imposters / imitators/ Johnny-come-latelys are clunky, have #3 grade lumber with no soul, are new-fangled, have no history /stories to tell; so I just convinced myself, yet again, to not do it, but instead, to buy her a nice new Harrison-designed 5 gang Accurate mould for Christmas.

That is one big scope on that 460 my friend! You may want to put something on there with much bigger eye relief, or better, stick to the iron sights if your eye sight allows. As is now, you might soon sport a crescent shaped forehead decoration!

It's been a while since I've had a ruger no.1, and I've recently been feeling the pangs of regret for selling off those I had. So much so that I finally could not resist any longer and fell for this year's offering of the No.1S in 30-06:

I set her up with a Swarovski Z6i 1.7-10x42 and had a bit trimmed out of the stock such that the eye relief was ideal for me. Only had the opportunity this afternoon to do a rough zero at 25 meters, but the grin it left on my face has me itching to get out for a proper zero. I spent the evening loading up some hot-ish 110r v-maxes to try and if they shoot ok I might have to go cull some coyotes...;) I can't wait to take her big game hunting next fall.

Cheers, and thanks for sharing your beautiful rifles!

Beutiful rifles, love the scene as well. Great shot.

Thanks waited for the right day to take them outside ,,,,, the wood pile does make a great back drop

Great choice of rifle.... And scopes...... Beautiful....

thanks I am getting old eyes and they like good glass I have a Zeiss on everything that hunts now

Beautiful wood on that 6.5! How old is that rifle?

Also, is the 338 WM a 1-B with irons added on?

The serial # on the 6.5x55 puts it 2011 (Ruger web site ) it was never fired , and the wood is very orange compared to the .338 as for the iron sights on the .338 ,early 80"s serial # and never thought about the sights being different came to me that way ,never been hunted with not a mark on it when I got it

Time to bring this thread back to life with my first Ruger #1 acquisition!

A #1B that was a 30-06 originally, re-chambered to 308 Norma Mag.

Not the best pics. The wood is decent but not as nice as some out there. I've never seen another #1 in 308 Norma, factory or custom, so when I saw it I couldn't resist.

Here's the first outing with factory 180gr Norma Plastic point:

Definitely better than I expected! Pretty sure I pulled that 5th shot. I just got my hands on 50 pieces of new Norma brass so I'm going to try out some loads with 200gr Accubonds as soon as I can find some 4831 or maybe some 7828.

The wood on this .257 Wby is barely average so I won't feel bad taking it into the field for some long-range varminting. I'm pleased with how the Burris 5-25x Veracity centers up in the rings and provides perfect eye relief. It was a worry of mine after seeing a multitude of scopes pushed way back or needing special rings on other #1's. It's a match made in heaven.
