Seriously people? I can't be the only Canadian with a Recce!

Clobb: I just got it so I haven't had a chance to use this scope yet. The eye relief is longer than I expected, and I almost ran out of mount positioning it forward.

Actually, officially I'm not sure anyone really knows. However, the industry seems to have settled on 16" midlength carbines with high quality barrels and decent optics that can offer more accurate fire than regular carbines, while maintaining a compact and relatively light package.

From the sounds of it the AR I am putting together now (which happens to be my first) will fall within the "Recce" parameters. What are the barrel specs?

And what exactly qualifies a rifle to be recce?

It's not well defined. FPembleton's definition ("16" midlength carbines with high quality barrels and decent optics that can offer more accurate fire than regular carbines, while maintaining a compact and relatively light package") is a pretty good one. For another try:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEAL_Recon_Rifle
"The SEAL Recon Rifle is sometimes referred to as the "Recce Rifle"
"the SEAL Recon Rifle was developed to provide SEAL snipers with a portable, lightweight system with greater lethality than a standard M4 carbine"

Here's my 16.5" (HK/Nightforce):
