Whoa! The first black powder geek/joker that starts un-buttoning his pants is getting shot!

I was looking over pics from a blackpowder gun show down in the US and it was mind boggling. The custom makers were strutting their stuff, the finest blade smiths had their wares out and there was truly some stellar stuff to be seen.

But I also saw a bunch of refurbed and custom built tools that were pure eye candy too! Planes, draw knives, and some junk I couldn't even identify was out there too.

Do you fellers enjoy old tools too? If ya got any conversation pieces, could ya post 'em?

I bought an original mold for an antique 1849 Pocket Colt,it still works and produces balls and bullets. They must have used gloves when casting with these as the handles get very hot.
I got this from Joe Salter in the U.S....less than $100 delivered.

responses are a bit slow so I will toss in one of old tools and several of home made tools. First is a photo of some antique screw plates. They are used I think for threading and also (I use them) for holding small screws while filing to length.

Some home made taps for chasing out breach plug threads on a brown bess, to get to fresh and unpitted metal.

some home made adjustable headspace guages

some home made D bits for chambering

bottom gadget is a home made barrel crowning tools for squaring up the muzzle of a shotgun barrel (rifle barrels I do in the lathe)

dent removing wedges for shotgun barrels; home made

finally a broach for cutting the square holes in hammers and a guide for filing 60 degree sight bases

Mooncoon, you're just handier than a shirt pocket.

That's some nice work.

First pic right side, can you tell us more about that item?

It is essentially a special kind of threading die. Each of the little blocks is threaded on both sides so that blocks 1right and 2 left are a pair and 2 right and 3 left are a pair. There are numbers stamped on one side indicating I think 40 tpi down to 24 tpi. The gap between the jaws seems to indicate that the smalles pair would thread 1/8 x 40 tpi (#4 - 40 bolt) and the largest I am guessing is 5/16 x 24 tpi. I also suspect it would probably work better in chasing out damaged threads than cutting new ones. I bought it in a antique show but is one of the few tools that I have never used.

the screw plates I do use occasionally when filing a short screw to length and they are quite handy for that job.
