Nice loading bench boogz, are you going to make seperate doors for each shelf, that would be cool. I have a similar bench design in my basement for my drill press and grinder. I really need to get my act together and update my loading bench.
Boogz, consider taking out that middle bottom shelf and putting a computer monitor/wireless mouse keyboard in there. I'm constantly looking up gun stuff on the internet, load data, howto vids etc. while I'm loading and I'm glad I incorporated a computer into my bench. You can look at mine, post 158.

thanks for the great ideas guys! i've been racking my brain trying to figure out the best set up and finishing touches. i like the idea of the scale door, and gonna definitely wire up some power on the side of the bench for tools and to plug my laptop into . i am considering doors for the rest of the cubbies just ran out of time. also trying to figure out the most cost effective top for the counter love acrylic sheeting but man that stuff is not cheap.
Here's my new set up so far. The man cave is in progress, it will be my gun room/office. Kicked around a bunch of bench designs before going with this. 2x4 and 2x6 construction, everything is glued and screwed, and carriage bolts on all corners, and built it to the wall studs. I was sick of losing energy through deflection on the old bench, so I think i solved it with this one. 12' long, 36" high, 28" wide, with a 2.25" thick top. Tools will be mounted to wooden mounts for easy locating, still haven't figured it I will just clamp them or drill some universal mounting holes.
I havent replaced the shelves on my bench yet, I didnt like what was there (I am no carpenter), and have yet to decide (design) what will work better. Thanks to many of these posts I now have an idea.
I would also like to build a dedicated book shelf, and turn the closet into a lighted gun cabinet. I have ran out of room for rifles in the house...lol

Been modified and cluttered and uncluttered dozens of times now, got a nice cycle going here.

Component storage in bins close by...
Sort of filled up. Looks similar to this now, except the 1919 and other guns are in the gun display room now.
Visually cluttered but very functional as long as I keep it clean.

thanks alot! you got me though. i went for looks over functionality on that one didn't like to see the gap between the doors when they are closed. i'd like to think of it as a sort of puzzle for those who try and get in. lol i pretty much used the NRMA designs and just altered a few dimensions. plus i didnt like the sliding doors they would have added a pretty substantial cost. all in all a pretty easy build.

Either way, it's an amazing bench. I was in Home Depot not that long ago and saw some hinges that just might work there. The hinge swings kind of out and away. Might work in this case. I am in a similar situation with a hidden safe closet that I have built. The hinges wouldn't work in my case because they were too small. But the idea is sort of the same.
