Showoff your SHORTY 12G SHOTTY (14" or under and Mods)!

So what is the shortest barrel you can put on a pump action shotgun that is still unrestricted? I'm looking at building a tactical/truck/SHTF shotgun.

Sorry if this has been asked. (time and time AGAIN)

As long as the total length is not less than 26 inches. Barrel length in a pump doesn't matter.

Not entirely true, it has to be manufactured that way. Can't cut a barrel shorter than 18.5" and still keep it non restricted. Please correct me if I am incorrect.

You can't cut a long barrel short, but you can either buy the entire short barreled shotgun from the manufacturer, or buy a factory short barrel and put that on your shotgun (and keeping the overall length at 26"+). As long as you don't cut it you're good to go. This is only for non semis.

Stupid law, I know. This is what happens when you have politicians making gun laws.

Hey, you were the one who told me about these awesome leather shell holders from Ukraine, right?

I just received mine last week, here is the result:

1980 Wingmaster re-finished, 14" Norinco cylinder barrel off a HP9, S&J Hardware +1 extension.

I'm not a big fan of wood guns, but that is beautiful. I don't post much, but felt compelled to after seeing that gun. The stock with the wood grains is Beauty!

The shortest that I know of (I'm no expert!) Is the 8.5" barreled 870's. There are Chinese Grizzly versions, and Dlask versions. And maybe the Serbu in the USA but getting those up here would be difficult.

the Grizzly when new sold for $400, I think a Dlask would be maybe around double that (?) but use a Remington as the basis for it.

They ARE short though... I think they'll only fit 2 or three rounds in the tube mag. And the pattern is too wide to be practical for many. Most people seem to advocate for 14", or at least no shorter than 12".

Dlask made some 6.5's

A 12.5 or 14 is ideal. I prefer the 14 myself. I have an 8.5 wingmaster , and although it is a fun toy I wouldn't use it to anything serious. Most 8.5's shoot waay high. If you put a straight edge along the top of the receiver, you will find that the top of the bead is actually below the top of the receiver. This causes you to raise the front of the barrel up when you are sighting, and the 8.5 Dominion arms that I had was 2-3 feet high at 50 yds. The dlask barrels which is what I have on my wingmaster has a higher blade type front sight and is a big improvement, but still not that great.

Right, but were they Non-Restricted? I mean that's what was asked. Would that still meet minimum overall length with a normal stock?

yes the 6.5 were unresricted with a full stock. the original pistol grip 8.5 barreled guns that dlask started with were unrestricted until the lab boys branch of the r.c.m.p. decided to say you may have created a handgun and we are restricting them unless you put a full stock on them . are you clear yet ?

Mind you, they said "may be" restricted. Because they know that the law doesn't really support that interpretation. Not sure how you're to operate a pump action shotgun with one hand.

The first 8.5" dlask shotguns were sold with pistol grip only. The owners of these shotguns were never notified of that change in status and this is when we had a registry and new restricted certificates would have to printed and mailed out by the firearms center if they did change the status on the owners, if that was what actually happened?

i purchased one of these guns from the original owner and you are correct when you point out that they were unrestricted with a pistol grip only and were not supplied with a full stock at the time of purchase .he told me that the firearms center notified him and told him he would have to put a full stock on the gun in order to remain unrestricted .i have the original adds for these guns from the Canadian access to firearms paper and no full stock was listed and it was pointed out in the add that they were unrestricted with pistol grip only. i also have the original paper work from the dlask factory and the gun was shipped with a pistol grip only as unresricted . there is documented history of this and it appears that the r.c.m.p. can classify or reclassify a gun any way they want . on one hand the cz pistol is not a pistol but a shotgun is a pistol if it suits there purpose .. in case you are wondering i keep a full stock on mine as i do not wish to test this in a court of law .

I owned the original and was never notified by the firearms center or the rcmp that the status was changed. No new registration certificate was mailed out. This happened all back when we had the long gun registry so it was easy for them to track the guns and notify the owners, but they never did.

that's interesting to hear . it does not surprise me that it was hit or miss whether one was contacted having had a few screw ups of my own over registered guns by the firearms center .i guess we have strayed pretty far off topic so if you want to get back to showing us pictures of your short shotguns by all means do. i have a couple of shotgun pistols registered as resricted that i will try to get some pics of and hope i am forgiven for going off topic .

It is still on the topic sort of lol

A number of my friends also bought them from Dlask at the same time I did and none of them were notified to install a full stock or sent restricted certificates for the shotguns either.
