Excellent point. BUT everyone that thinks that way should understand they will likely end up looking at the business end of guns in the hands of police or military that they encounter. I totally agree that in a prolonged survival event, you will be on your own. But realize that in a post disaster, shtf, whatever you call it situation..I doubt very much that you will get some form of government endorsement to run around with a AR with fat mags. Sure, I know, who cares right? Just remember that the police and in all likelihood the military will be out to do their job. And their job isn't going to be easy, as already pointed out, they have families at home to be concerned about. So don't think that a shtf scenario changes anything in their eyes. They still want to make it home at the end of their shift. You are a man/woman with a gun. Expect to be treated accordingly. Big boy rules.
The common thread among many people discussing shtf scenarios is bugging out. Then it evolves into running around with some form of shtf gun. While I can see there will be cases for people to get out of the area they are in, unless forced to, bug in and stay home. It is much easier to look after your loved ones in a 'controlled' environment. Too many threads on shtf always evolve into running in the streets openly with AR's and VZ', what have you. Stay the #### home and look after things there. The less people running around all over creation with guns, the SOONER order can be re-established. Isn't that what we really want, or do some of you thrive on the excuse to run fat mags in the streets? Give your head a shake.
I spend a good deal of my time ensuring my family is prepared for whatever kind of emergency my arise. I don't have a nuclear fallout shelter or anything. Sure that prepardness plan includes firearms and training to use them. But I don't relish the idea of having to openly engage threats in the street with my family in tow. Do you?
