Guys, I’m not going to name names or point out rifles but there has been ALOT of rifles be marketed as original, when it couldn’t be further from the truth.
1. Germany never assembled mismatched rifles. There were errors and special cases of a part being recycled, but the old “they just threw together whatever they had on hand “ bull crap sellers like to puke up, is garbage. That never happened. To THE LAST gun, they were matched with at least 5 serial numbers.
2. German reworks. Another common load of junk spouted by sellers. They just put on whatever they had to make the gun work, it’s a wartime refurb. Etc etc. Wartime refurbs fit known and established patterns. The Germans were very anal about everything, and just refurbing a rifle doesn’t make it wartime.
3. You need to study. It’s not all on the seller. Norway, Sweden, Albania, Yugoslavia, Czech rep., Russia, East Germany, west Germany, Bulgaria, France, all used these guns post war and meddled with them. Again they have patterns and signs showing what it is.
About 1% of K98k that have come across my path in a decade of collecting 98k in Canada are matching and correct. So do homework before wasting your money.
I’m just sick of seeing these ads with BS info.
I have helped lots of guys, and am always willing to look at a k98k and tell you the facts of what it is and isn’t. I mainly will tell you it isn’t original wartime German, I group the rest all together. There are also other members willing to assist. As far as credentials, Not that I want to come off as braggy or a know it all, but I proof read the best books on the topic of 98k, I wasn’t selected because I’m a moron who can’t tell what an original rifle is. Lol.
