What do people think of those Velcro sidesaddles? There are some advantages like taking it off when not in use and making the shotgun thinner for transport and taking less room in a safe. If you glue these things on the receiver, do they leave a mess, if you remove it later? Maybe the more durable mesata tactical is a better choice.

What do people think of sidesaddles?

I prefer Velcro. S&J hardware makes a great product, elastic holds the shells well and no, messy residue is not an issue if you want to remove it from the receiver after. I’ve used a variety of good quality side saddles of the injection molded type. Not all held the shells equally well, and I just prefer the options Velcro carriers give you; flexibility of space, less weight on a gun that is a factor, options for a vest rig to carry reloads ( more Velcro cards ) etc...

I'm not big on the extra weight, but i like the idea with Velcro ones of being able to quickly slap a full sidesaddle on. S&J's shell holders are made of 3 Velcro packs, look really interesting.

I got rid of all my sidesaddles and use belt mounted like the California comp. The Mesa has 2 different rubber tubes that give varying degrees of grip. I found even the most secure one allowed the shells to move around. Also if you store shells in it, the rubber compresses and has a memory making the shell looser still

All good points for cards , but , What's the longevity of the Elastic and Velcro of those cards , I have a 20 year old Adventures outpost side saddle , same as the tac star one's , that still works as well as the day I got it , also , have a mesa shell holder that I leave snap caps in for months and they're still snug , although , I did have to upgrade the tubing , the old one was crap .
I've a few shell holders that use elastic bands that , and it has been many years , no long hold shells , just saying .

Velcro shell cards for me as well, the S&J pouch is the best. A full pouch goes on my belt and a card on the buttstock, quick to swap out and I can load a couple with bird shot and the other with a mix of slugs and 00buck. Any game I come across wilhile out hunting is covered, the cards and pouch are well made and the Velcro strip that attaches to your gun leaves no mess. S&J supplies the Velcro as well, as a lefty I would like a 4 shell card for the reciever behind the ejection port, the 6 shell cards go on my stock.

The full pouch holds 18 shells and 4th on the gun brings it up to 24, nice to load it up and not have to think about packing a box around iwith you when your out hunting or blasting clays.

The Mesa looks better, no question.

But from a practical standpoint; The Velcro holders are a much better option.

Trinity Force P1812 ExoMount comes with a saddle that slips over the pic rail on the left side of the optic mount. I thought that was pretty nifty.

Check out Aridus Industries Universal QDC shotshell carrier (http://www.aridusindustries.com/). I ordered it from S&J Hardware. The receiver adaptor comes with one detachable carrier. There are different QDC mounts depending on the shotgun model you are using.

I've got one installed on my shotgun and I'm very pleased with it.

There is a new option out there that can give you the best of both worlds. The Aridus Industries Quick-Detach carrier has a metal base that attaches to the shotgun and has removable quick-detach carriers that can be quickly replaced - same as the fabric and Velcro ones.

A little pricey but definitely cool and the universal model fits on any brand of shotgun.

I prefer Velcro to keep things simple and I can easily add/remove shells if and when needed.

I went with ARES Moduloader so I can use it on my gun or belt. The carriers are much more rigid so they don't curl when loaded with shells.

I've tried a few Velcro options and the ARES Moduloader is hands down my favorite.

I got rid of all my sidesaddles and use belt mounted like the California comp.

Does anyone bring those into Canada, or are people still ordering them from the US?

I went with velcro on my grizzly for the ability to swap another velcro side saddle on there. Then I proceeded to never buy additional side saddles

I quickly realized that having a velcro side saddle is nice for storage. Pull the side saddle off and pop the gun in the safe.
