Sierra Game King

In my experience, weight retention is not their thing. While they hold together better than a cheaper cup-and-core bullet (think Winchester Power Point), they are still subject to the same laws of physics. Back in the 1990's I settled on Hornady spire points as a better hunting bullet over the game kings. The Sierras consistently shot better, but the Hornady bullets shot well enough -- and I have yet to have a spire point come unglued in an animal. I have, however, retrieved a couple game king jackets that were missing their lead cores. That said, I certainly did not shoot enough game animals with the game king bullets to have a statistically valid opinion on this.

I agree with most of that, except the part about Game Kings having better weight retention than a Winchester Power Point. In my experience the Game Kings perform almost identical to the Power Point in 30-06 but the PP might hold weight better than the GK IN 300 Win. Which is not saying anything wrong with the PP, just that the Game King is NOT a tougher bullet.

The Sierra 30 cal Pro Hunter 180gr IS a tougher bullet than the SGK with noticably better weight retention in water jugs. It's a flat base bullet whereas the GK is boat tailed.

The Game King is a good 30-06 bullet but it is stretching to say it can perform at higher velocity in faster cartridges.
