Sig 550

Dontcha' just love it when newbies try and tell guys who actually own the firearms they're lusting after/talking about "how it is?"

For the record, the Swiss Arms Classic Green, Black Special, Blue Star, Red Devil & Heavy Metal rifles are all NON-RESTRICTED and are NOT SIG 550s!!! (How do I know? 'cause I've got a couple of them sitting in my safe right now).:ninja:

The Swiss Arms Classic Green "CQB" is NOT a SIG 552! However, due to barrel length, it is legally classified as a RESTRICTED firearm. If it were an actual SIG 552 it would be prohibited. (How do I know? 'cause I've got one sitting in my safe right now!):ninja:

You should look at your owners manual and WTFU. Read your own post again, sometimes you sound like an arrogant ass. Not all know the upper is the wpn ... ah sorry "rifle" and that our "versions" technically come from the "540" and not the "550" but the guy who posted didn't. As the post shows the common world name for the family of rifles is SG550 or SIG 550 - so much no, even dealers use it.

So what, that the company is now Swiss Arms and is named the "Classic Special Star of the Metal Devil in technicolor", the damn thing is still stamped "SIG" and is still commonly called the "550" by most - Whatever - Get over it. The guy asked for help and all you guys can do is dance on your little mound of righteousness. I swear this site scares away 4 out of 5 people who come here. This sport needs to attract as many new (and friendly) people as possible.

While I agree with your statements in general with regard to trying to attract and retain people in the sport and limiting condescending tones in posts, I have a hard time believing every new individual coming on this board is asking hard questions about certain firearms out of pure curiousity.
I, like more than a few on the board are questioning their motives, and based on current history of firearms regulations, believe alot of them are simple fishing expeditions by individuals bent on the further errosion of sport shooting in Canada. While it may seem to be simple symantics to some shooters, I would hazard a guess it won't be when the next bout of bans comes down from the government. Every person on this board really needs to wake up to this reality and keep in mind everything posted is in the public realm. I would wager a small fortune that more than a small percentage that swim among us are not of like mind.

Well Put Beltfed. We must all be very cautious these days. There are some who are trying to figure out what looks evil and how we have managed to continue owning it. Not everyone who visits here is friend.

Don't forget that.

Wow...who $hit in your Shreddies?;) It was posts like this:

the sig550 is not prohibited fyi.

Made by new members of the board as well as a greater than normal frequency of newbies coming to the board looking to buy prohibited firearms, the SIG 550 in particular, that sparked my comments. I generally don't comment, unless I have something to add to a conversation, and if you'll notice in my post, I listed all non-restricted versions by name and indicated that the CQB isn't one of them and why. To my mind that isn't ignorance or arrogance, its education.

We've had a number on individuals come to this board on "fishing expeditions" as Rich mentioned and a number of long-time board members found themselves in trouble by being too trusting.

I'm all for welcoming newbies to the board and have done so on many occasions. I have even urged other, more militant members, to cut new guys a break when they ask questions we've heard time and time again. IMHO, there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers, however, that doesn't apply to cases where the new member is told the difference and then chooses to basically tell the guy who took the time to set him straight to pound salt...and then proceeds to tell the rest of the board how it "really is."

BTW: I've introduced 15 new shooters to hunting/shooting sports since last September. The year before it was 32. How about you?

In closing, you call me arrogant...perhaps I was. However, from the tone and attitude you display in your response to my post, you might want to take your own advice and re-read your post, 'cause dude, you're coming across as a first class asshat as well. I guess I should say: Welcome to the club!:dancingbanana::wave::dancingbanana:

Agreed. I tried to smoke them out in the Banned Users thread until it got locked.

Fair enough but you and I have been around for awhile and can take a shot or two and not cry, we should have thick skin, I just don't believe in beating the children...;)

I normally don't comment on brow beating threads but there seems to be more and more ##### slapping of "newbies" who try to join in. Common in forums I guess. I reread the thread and still say it was heavy handed to the new guys. The guy who started the thread has long ago run away and likely took up darts...:runaway:

16 new shooters to hunting/shooting sports and the year before it was 33, I win. :dancingbanana::rolleyes: Not only that I didn't make a single one quit the sport. How about you?...

Darts...good one! :DOrdinarily I'd be with you, (and if we were discussing any other forum but this one) but when we get into the Black Rifles forum we seem to get a lot more of the "questionable" button pushers, rather than earnest info seekers. Its certainly unfortunate that some innocents get tarred with the same brush. I'll try to give newbies in this forum the greater benefit of the doubt in the future.

As for introducing new shooters to the sport, I wasn't BS'ing and on my own time and dime, arranged for several complete classes of 12 students who had zero gun experience to take the CFSC, including arranging for a venue, booking the instructor, collecting the course fees and later helped them complete their PAL applications; and took many of them shooting for the first time ever.

They're all gun owners now, and because the CFSC is taught as part of Newfoundland's Hunter Education Course, they're all now big game license applicants as well. So I figure I'm doing my share to recruit newbies to our sport. I'd appreciate it if you exercised a little of that restraint you alluded to in your remonstration of me when discussing this topic in the future. In the meantime, you've made your point, I've granted it, so I hope we can put this little exchange to rest. All the best...

In truth, you are bringing way more to the sport then me. And bringing people to the range in much more important then yaping on a forum about it.

I'm talking the talk - need to walk the walk more.

cheers

No problem hunting with a swiss arms rifle (classic green, black special etc.) so long as what you are going after is appropriate and sufficient to hunt with .223 rem. Coyotes, small deer okay, larger game not appropriate IMHO.

Okay, I have to chime in...

I do own a SWISSARMS PE-90 "Classic Green". It is a wonderful rifle, and will always shoot better than me. I would like to continue to own it, so I, personally, would really appreciate it if people would READ THE PREVIOUS POSTS, and stop calling it a Sig 550, or a Stgw90, or any other name of SIMILAR LOOKING items.

It is, as mentioned above, parallel to calling your buddy's LEGALLY OWNED Ar-15, the same thing as a PROHIBITED U.S. rifle M4. Apples and oranges, even though the grocery bag may look the same.

Am I getting through?

Okay, rant off:

The Swissarms rifles are superb, and to me, definitely worth the cost. I am feeling ripped out that our dollar improved AFTER I bought mine, and I could have saved $300 for more mags. You are getting a "BMW", and only BMW brand name parts seem to really work with them, so be prepared for extra cost of accessories in your budget (i.e. - $80 per magazine).

They do prefer the 62 grain or heavier projectiles, so good luck finding ammo for a reasonable cost right now, too, just FYI.

Cheers,

Neal

I have owned various auto loaders and I think the sg 550 is the best of them all. You have the accuracy of an m 16 with the reliabilty of an ak-47. price might be high but you get what you pay for. I know where to get one if your interested?

We really are our own worst enemy... If you ever happen to read Dion's speech on gun control. He did bring this issue up. That is why he propose to have a new OIC to clean up the lose ends. Some people just need to SHUT YOUR BIG YAPPIERS if you don't know what you are talking about. This firearm in question HAS been approved by the RCMP as NOT being a variant. Period. But the same retards keep bring up the same issue and asking the same stupid questions.

How dare you insult my Swiss by suggesting it is only as accurate as an AR.

Forsooth!

It's too bad that we Canadians can't own a single one of the rifles you named, and haven't been able to for many years.
