I just bought a SIG Mosquito for my wife. She has small hands and likes the ergos. I like the fit and finish and it seemed to be put together well.
Today I had it out to the range for the first time and found out a few things - first, I don't like the safety. I want a safety to block the movement of everything so I know it's on when I pull the trigger. The one on the SIG lets you cycle the entire action with no bang.Like dry-firing.
Second, as noted by a lot of people so I knew going in, this thing is really picky on ammo. It will not shoot and/cycle bulk ammo at all. It eats up Remington Viper no problem but I can't find this stuff other than in packs with a knife included. Older hi-velocity Remington does not work at all, and neither does American Eagle 40gr.
I went out this evening and bought a box of CCI Minimag and a couple other boxes of high velocity ammo. Hopefully I can find something that works consistently and that I can buy locally.
Kind of sucks that this thing is so finicky, my S&W 41 and Ruger Mark2 at least shoot the American Eagle stuff.
Later,
Glen

Try some Remington Thunderbolts(no kidding). That's what worked in mine, 'till after about a 500rd. break-in period. Now it all cycles properly.

You can try the lighter springs that are used for lighter loads, Mine would not feed properly with the reguler stiff springs. Now it cycles well with all ammo

First thing that I noticed with mine is that it likes oil and CCI mini mags. I tried some federal bulk and it was a bit fussy with it.

For me I will be sticking with the CCI.

Mine works great never jams but I don't bother with the hi-velocity ammo at all just the cheap plunking stuff. Why are you firing that stuff anyways? Whats the point??

According to Sig Sauer's website, the two recoil springs are actually the same.

Here is the actual text.. It depends how old the gun is but there were two springs at one time and I guess still available.

Quote: There is only one recoil spring offered for the Mosquito Pistol. Initial production of the pistol noted two different spring weights. Mosquitos are shipped with spare recoil spring as a replacement and is the same as the recoil spring installed in the pistol.

I interpreted the word "noted" to mean that it was written somewhere (maybe marketing material?) that there were two spring weights, but in fact there was only one spring weight.

My interpretation could be wrong.

Not sure if they are the same, but the extra spring is about 1/4" longer. Maybe due to being uncompressed. Seems to cycle okay manually. Both my wife and I feel that it is easier to rack. Testing at range to follow.

My Mosquito was picky as well, but I only have about 200 rounds through it at this point. Upon clearing many jams with all types of bulk ammo, I found that the chamber is so tight, that loose tolerance bulk ammo is hard to push into the chamber. CCI mini-mags never jam and are not hard to push into the chamber. If the gun loosens up, it might be just fine on bulk ammo, will have to see!
