Sig P226 - is there another gun?

i know for FACT that you can buy a brand new SIG226 9mm with a RAIL, and Night Sites for $1150 from a dealer in vancouver. I was just in the states and a local reputable gun shop and i found most of the prices were dead on the dollar with our gun store prices. Think about a glock 17 for exampe, here new. $800. Ok, in the states new $650 or so. Do the math.
cheers.

No glock for me. I will be buying a sig p226. The Vancouver store started me looking at a Walther P99 tagged at $1250, and I think I saw a blued sig p226 for $1450. So I looked online and saw $550 for the Walther and $700 for the Sig. 20% US/CDN = $660 and $840. Adding $50. for shipping and FFL = $710 and $890. That's a saving of $540 and $610. How much could I hope for the Vancouver dealer to bend his price? 10%? If he reduced price 20%(doubt it), then I'd still save $340 and $290. That's what I get after "doing the math".
Maybe your math has to do with the US gun store that you go to?
Or are you talking used guns? I am talking new guns for comparison sake.
Online, I saw a barely used Sig p226 .357Sig stainless, rail, nite sites with 2 clips, holster, case, lock, etc, for $700 US (my cost to import in CDN = $890). What would that cost in your gun store? Oh yes, you mentioned 9mm as well, I am looking at .40 and .357sig (I think that's more money)

Im heading down to "Wade's gun shop" for the second time! Make sure you go with another person, i wasnt alowed to shoot any guns the first time. Go to www.packing.org for info on all the gun rental shops in the entire usa!
cheers.[/quote]

Why were you not allowed to shoot the first time? Is the person your taking a US citizen?
Thanks,
Reg

Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll get it to you another way.
I asked customs at the border about the duty and he said 3% if they decide to charge it.
When I asked a gun dealer in Vancouver why his gun was $1250 and online price was $550, he did not have a good answer ( you would think he would quickly tell me if there was a good reason) He just mumbled something about the manufacturer ships to only one importer here in Canada and they distribute and make money from it (sounds lame).
The FFL guy said just phone him when I am ready to have it shipped to him (r buy it from him) and he will charge $25.00 to take it to the border.
At this point that's all I know. I will soon be trying out the process.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the link. I'm also curious what you mean by taking the gun to the border. Do you mean that the dealer will actually drive up to the border crossing to meet you?

I fired a Beretta 92FS, and a Taurus 92, And found that the recoil was the same as my BHP, which was quite snappy at time.

Maby the Vertec has a thinner frame, but to me not worth the over 1000 $ price tag to try one out, becuase I know NO one around here that has one.

Now my 40cal SIG is smooth as slik, less snap then the 9mm version of the SIG I found also its WAY less snappy over the glock 17 9mm.

The 30.6 oz doesn't feel that much, since im used to the 40oz + 1911's and I got a light on my SIG.

Yes, in this case he is about 5 minutes from the border.

avsecb2, There are a few people on this forum with considerable experience importing stuff from the US. I'm sure some of them would be more than happy to share their experiences with you. You may want to start a new thread looking for their input. Many forum members tend to avoid threads that look like they're heading in the direction of "this gun vs. that gun" for obvious reasons.

It sounds like you've decided on the 226. Good choice! I'm sure you will be very happy with it. Also, you might want to make sure that the gun comes with 10 round mags now that the US mags can come in higher capacities.

I took you advice and started a new post about importing. You guys are sure awesome on this site. A number of folks have expressed an interest in this importing thing so maybe we can help them to save some bucks. I have all the time in the world to do this stuff now since I'm post-op, and stuck at home for quite a while.
Thanks again krausb

Glad to help. hope it works out for you. If it does, I may have to give it a try myself. :D

post-op, eh? Nothing too serious, I hope. How long wil you be laid up for?

It has been a long story. Short story is multiple injuries at work Dec 29,2003. - shoulder surgery 6/04. WCB force me into aggressive program - retore rotator cuff and caused hernia (2 extra surgeries thanks to WCB), just had the hernia one (ouch). One more to go on other shoulder. Back still wrecked too. If not for WCB I think I would be back on my feet by now. Gives me lots of time to dream up intelligent things to say on here and to shop for guns.

cant remember what i was going to say.....ummm o ya, wades guns failed to mention you need to people in order to rent guns before I went down the first time. SO if you go, make sure you take someone with you. I think a few people commited suicide at some washington gun ranges in the past. So the new rules state 2 people shooting. Just a tip for ya, so you dont do what i did.

As for the prices on guns, i was just using the glock as a example. Personally i think the prices of our canadian stores are right online with the US prices. BUT!! You have to shop around to find the right price. A SIG 226 can be had for $1150 with night sites in vancouver if you do your homework. I know because I know a fellow shooter that bought one for that price brand NEW!

If you still insist on importing, save yourself the hassle and use "Questar".

avsecb2, Sorry to hear about the hassle. But it sounds like just another day for the BCWCB... But if you think they're bad you should try getting hurt on the job in Alberta. The alberta WCB can be just plain mean.
