I was wondering what type of gun oil people have been using for there 226's. I have used with G96 on mine and not sure if that is best one. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Tw25b best thing...
Using G96 in a p226, I don't know, it is smelly and runs everywhere, plus it is a cleaner do it all type of product...I would say it is ok for certain parts, but I would not put just that on the rails of a p226

I bought what they recommend (tw25b) and I use it on all my pistols, including polymer. I have tried other lubes and oils and always go back to tw25b, good stuff. They have a self migrating oil too...good for trigger parts.

Cheers.

Stefan,

The lubrication of Sigs has been up for debate, with some people claiming a few drops of oil are good, some claiming grease is the key.
I like putting grease on mine. There are many brands to go with; Frog Lube, TW25B, Slide Glide, Shooter's Choice, Tetra, etc. The slide on the P226 is stainless steel and the frame is anodized aluminum alloy, including the frame rails where the SS slide rides back and forth on.
Bruce Gray, a gunsmith in the United States who is considered to be a highly knowledgeable and respected expert on Sig Sauer pistols, recommends grease.

Here is a great article on the subject:

That was a interesting article thank you. I think I will head to the store and see what they have.

I always use white lithium grease on the rails of any gun and on any friction parts (you can get a big tube at lordco), and Hoppes oil on everything else. No problems!

I use mobil 1 XHP 462 moly premium lubricating grease on all components and have had great success. The sig sauer armors manual suggests brushing a light coating of grease down the bore. I did just that with my the moly grease and the bore was noticeably cleaner at the end of a short range visit.

You won't find tw25b and mc2500 oil anywhere except williams arms in port perry. If you don't want to go up there(which I highly recommend), call and they'll ship it to you.

I use it exclusively on my Sig's.

I have been there before some good reloading stuff , it gives me a reason for a road trip.

Lubriplate 105 engine assembly grease is comparable to TW-25B, but at a much lower cost. I got a 10 oz tube for about $10 at Auto Value.

I just use the Hoppes Oil on my P226s, with no issues. I usually put 700 rounds through mine between cleanings, and it seems like the gun would keep going for at least double that.
