SIG P229R picture thread

Ugg! I didn't even think of that. Well, maybe in the next day or so I can find a SIG P232... and a P239 by next week! :D

Speaking of which, has anyone heard any rumblings about more of the SIG line of guns being made available for the Canadian market with factory barrels? The whole P229 line seems to have been made available already. They have 3.9 inch (99mm) barrels and which have been extended to 106mm for Canada.

There are a number of other guns in the SIG line that have 3.9 inch barrels: all of the P220 "Carry" and "Compact" models, and the SIG PRO SP2022. SIG could probably sell a good number of these in Canada if they made the barrels for them.

Then there is the Mosquito with it's 3.98 inch barrel. Probably wouldn't be too tricky to cook something up so that we could get a non-threaded, non-"target" model up here.

The rest of the small SIGs have 3.6 inch (91.44mm) barrels: the P232 and P239 models. For these you would have to have a substantial "stick-out" (about 14mm or .67 inch). This is quite a bit, but it isn't as much as the Glock 26/27 with their 88mm (3.46 inch) barrels. Then again, if GLOCK is going to do factory barrels for Canada, I imagine we are only going to see the compact models from them, not the sub-compacts.

I really like my 230. Yes, the barrel protrudes quite a bit, but if that is what it takes, then so be it.

Yah, it's still looking good. I want one of those. Is that the one that was in the Exchange? There seems to be a few P230/232-type guns around that are restricted - but just a few. It would be nice if SIG would make some more of them for us beleaguered Canadians. And it not that... the SIG PROs are a gimme for the Canadian market. I wonder how much they would be in Canada straight from the distributor? They are somewhat cheaper than a P226 or P229 in the States ($550-$650 rather than $750-$850 sort of thing).

the more I look at it the more I think thats what I'll go for, still want to try one beforehand but my doubts are very slim as it's a SIG...
I was wondering it what caliber tho, I like 9mm, 40 is OK too and still have to try .357 in a semi (that's gotta be good).
Anybody tried one in .357 please add your input.

so let me get this straight you can buy a 229 in .40 and buy a 9mm barrel and it will drop right in and function normally, and also can you do this with a 226 in .40 and buy a 9mm barrel for it and it will work too?

The 229 will take barrels for .40cal, 357Sig and 9mm, Barsto makes the 9mm barrels. A barrel from a 226 will not fit a 229.

i didn't mean putting a 226 barrel in a 229, i meant buying a p226 pistol in .40 and putting a 9mm barrel in that, can it be done without troubles?

You can get a custom made barrel in 9mm to fit the .40cal 226.

I think the Elite 229 in .40cal will be my next big buy.

Powerful Ugly.

Terrific pictures. Wish I had talent like that, and posting them for all the rubes to see. Impressive.
I still think the P229 is one ugly gun. Give me the G17 anyday. The P226 X'5 and X'6 would be my only choice in Sigs.
While the commoners like me own G17's, I can get virtually any part to improve that platform and install it myself. Good luck just replacing the P229 barrel. Just wait till the Chi-coms steal that design and start flooding our market with that junk too.

It's a Sig.... you just buy it and it's "Perfection" right out of the box you don't have to "improve the platform".

Yes with the G17 you get the option to have your hand surgically altered to fit the grip and Glock offers a nail file to remove the calluses from your trigger finger. :p

Elite

I would love to pick up a 229 Elite but I just can't justify the outrageous cost. If you check places like Sig Forum you will find that NIB Stainless 229 Elites are going for $950.00 USD. How do they get to be almost $1500.00 here? I know that most of the problem lies with "Nichols" as they are the distributer here and control the market.
The last time I checked they said that they would not be importing any 229 ST Elites as they had to order in lots of 50 pistols which I guess is too large an order for them. What a Mickey Mouse outfit.

So are you going to invest in their company so they can afford to sit on stock for awhile till they sell? The pistol is priced about the same as other sigs elsewhere in Canada, the extra cost is in the longer barrel. I don't begrudge somebody in making choices that keeps his business alive and since he seems to have a good rep, I guess he is making the right choices.
