First, sighting in at 100 yds, sandbag rested front and rear: Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44 PA, NATO surplus 147gr. (headstamp HO, for anyone who can tell me where it came from) :

then at 300yds: there's a nice group near the centre that I got before the tighter group lower left (1,2,4). Pay no attention (to that man behind the screen?) to 3 and 5, they just plain got away from me. The other ones in the white were early shots, just bringing it onto the paper and settling in-

Here's my rig (Grunig .308), and the reticle (Dead Hold BDC)-

Next time, I'll use better ammo, but surplus was fine for early sighting in purposes. Still needs work, getting there, but overall in both pics I can see the need to bring it right a click or two. I'm reasonably content for my second day with this scope.

Nice rig and nice shooting, too.

Regarding you ammos, it's made by Chartered Industries of Singapore, Singapore ( h ttp://www.stengg.com/upload/747PZCelC4J8k0UEikO.pdf ).
They use the following headstamps; B (year), CIS (year)(caliber), CIS (year), SGA (year), HO, HB (B being the year = 1981)

Have fun and enjoy the smell of burnt powder.

Is this the rig you are going to be shooting at the Frosty Farky?

I can hardly wait to see it in person! You should be able to compete in the F(F) class which will put you on even terms with all those shooting 308 and 223.

Promises to be a good shoot!

Thanks to all for the encouragement! And thanks Baribal for the info. It's hard to find that stuff on the interweb, none of the sites I found had much to say about NATO suppliers.
Yeah, I'm pleased so far with the results, and can't wait for the weekend to get back out again. I'm loving the scope so far, only had it out twice, but it is a joy to use. I'm still getting used to it all, after years of aperture sights, so this is a whole new ballgame for me.
Yes, the stock is great, the cutaway type grip and the adjustable cheekpiece are just dandy.
Yep, I'll be using it at the Frosty Farky, but I really haven't a clue what all the classes mean. Time for a trip to the KTSA website, I guess.

Thanks again guys. As long as I don't embarass myself, I'll be happy. :D

I had some of the HO brass, and IIRC it was Berdan primed, so it might be worth your time to look at a spent case and see. No sense shooting corrosive ammo in a nice rig like that!

Steve,

I'll hunt ya down at the match and say hi! We can have a quick chat about the classes and how they ruun the matches.

Cheers,

Just because it may be Berdan primed does not mean it is corrosive.

Back to maynard.............thanks for adding to my knowledge. I have "always" understood that Berdan primer = corrosive. Wonder if you could send me to a link where I can learn more? Thanks!

Doug

I know Radway Green berdan primers are not corrosive. RG produces ammo for the UK MoD and also makes the match ammo used at Bisley, and is the only ammo allowed for use in the cadet RPA target rifles.
